Sorry, no help here, I’ve never made it with popcorn in the recipe.
I can’t find my Worcestershire ![]()
I am making a party mix with Rice Chex, Cheerios, Cheese Bits, mixed nuts, and using butter, tamari, various peppers, and French Fry seasoning. Will post results in an hour!
Here is another no- Worcestershire party mix.
It’s that time of year! How are you going to make your Party Mix?
My favorite additions are Extra Toasty Cheez-Its and chile crisp—which I think I started doing because I was going through a phase where my go-to snack was cheese straws made with chile crisp, which became Cheez-Its tossed with chile crisp since that’s a hell of a lot less work.
I had not thought of adding Chili Crisp!
I like to add mixed nuts and wasabi peas for additions.
The usual 3 cereal mix (sometimes I’ll use Crispix), plus pretzel nuggets, assorted mixed nuts, Bugles and lots of the seasoning mix. After roasting, shake it up in a big paper bag, package it up for the masses and start another batch or two or three. Never m&m’s, or chocolate chips.
Our friends used to store their party mix in re-used Chockful of Nuts coffee cans. I usually use Ziplocs these days. I might get some tins for some recipients.
OMG this combination had never occurred to me even though I love both of these things…now I know what I’m having for dinner!
Every year I have to make this from Brown Eyed Baker; I give most of it away. This year I couldn’t find unsalted mixed nuts from TJ so I bought from Costco instead.
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 cups mixed nuts (I used roasted, unsalted from Trader Joe)
2 cups twisted pretzels
2 cups Goldfish (I used Rocket cheese crackers from Trader Joe)
1¾ sticks butter, melted (Microwave about 33 seconds at a time until butter melts then whisk in following ingredients)
4 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (use 6 T?)
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Dashes of Crystal Hot Sauce
This year I found at Costco all 3 boxes of Chex in one package.
I made a lower salt version last year, cutting some seasonings that contain salt in half and omitting table salt, and increasing the butter a little, and we liked it a lot. I’ll probably do that again, and has salted mjxed nuts.
I left out the pretzels because they are my least favourite.
In Canada, some people use Shreddies and Cheerios or Life instead of Crispix or Chex.
I grew up with a Shreddies and Pretzel version with mixed nuts and Cheese Nips (little squares similar to Cheez-Its) added.
The version of party mix with cheerios and pretzel sticks is called Nuts and Bolts. Bits and Bites is another name for Party Mix up here
Here is the Best of Bridge Recipe for Nuts and Bolts.
A Bits and Bites recipe
This first batch is divided. The seasoning is simple, just butter and worcestershire.
One with Cheerios, Shreddies, pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds, cheddar ranch pretzels, cheese nips
The other is currently just cereal and more additions will be added.
Another idea which I have used well in a party mix:
Lucky Charms marshmallows. Yes it HAS to be those marshmallows. You can buy them in bulk. Mix with slightly warm buttered popcorn, pretzels, etc. The warm popcorn is mandatory to slightly soften/stickify the marshmallows. Everything else is to your own taste.
That slightly stale, dehydrated, weirdly crunchy texture is a whole… thing.
Just remembered that last year I made my chex mix with olive oil instead of butter so the vegan could eat it. To my surprise, I liked it better!
Furikake and TJ’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
this recipe uses vegetable oil
maybe I’ll try this Cranberry Bliss mix
I am making another batch of Nuts and Bolts, a fancier one, containing Cheerios, Cheese Nips, Marcona Almonds, Ontario Peanuts, Worcestershire.
I also added some rosemary, Aleppo pepper, Spanish paprika, and French Fry seasoning. Inspired by this recipe.
