Cheesesteaks

I have had theirs and while it is good, I could have used some more cheese. Other than that, a solid cheesesteak.

Fantastic cheesesteak at Meatheadz in Lawrenceville on RT 1. Shaved ribeye on garlic bread with onions and provolone. The seeded roll is from Sarcones in Philly. Truly the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had.

I just texted this post to a couple of friends and I just got this response from one of them:

Funny enough I’m going there for dinner tonight. I’ve been there a couple of times it’s fantastic.

He happens to be headed back home to CNJ from NE Philly!

It looks great! The cheese looks well blended. Do they offer Cooper Sharp?

Having made that trip dozens of times, and having stopped at dozens of places, the best pit stop is Toscano in Bordentown. Under 10 minutes from I-295 (please don’t tell me you take the Turnpike) and the best steak (not cheeesteak) in the state.

Okay – I won’t tell you I take the turnpike. If I were to do so, what would be the disadvantage? Asking for a friend

From Monmouth County taking Rt. 18 to 195 to 295 south, then Rt. 73 to the Betsy Ross Bridge, or 73 to Rt 38 to the Ben Franklin, or 295 to 76 for the Walt Whitman. Avoiding the turnpike is a hobby. Strictly for the Philly trips.

I’m traveling from DC, usually on past Philadelphia to points northeast. For Philly, we go 95 to 295, skirting Wilmington. I do admire your avoidance of the Turnpike. I often go to considerable lengths to avoid 95 when I go to NC to eat barbecue routes 1, 301, 15, 29, or blue highways all the way.

301 to 50 is always a pleasure.

Just got back from doing this drive on way down to Florida. I I’ll say 301 to Richmond at midnight on Sun was not great,
ESP the Maryland portion getting to state line. Usually have loved it but only to bypass Baltimore and DC to get back to 95.
95 itself on way back sucked and I hated every minute of it. Wish I had more places I could have taken kids along the way.
Will say that Fairfield inn in santee, SC and the Hampton inn in Smithfield, NC were both fantastic newer spotless clean hotels for anyone looking for a spot to stop at night on 95.
Also had my first Bucees experience

Sigh. The blue highways are best but take forever. This will help in your next bout with 95. https://johntannersbbqblog.wordpress.com/2021/11/04/best-places-to-eat-near-i-95-between-washington-dc-and-miami-and-on-to-key-west-2021/

The Sprout bought a bottle. Wasn’t crazy about it straight up but thought it was great in a Bloody Mary. She was just at 3BR for one of their gin-making events.
