Wow, so young!
I was really looking forward to the return of Slanted Door to the Mission District.
RIP.

So sad. Thanks for posting.
I only went once, with my cousins, in Oct 2010. I remember I had glass noodles with crab.
Very sad.
I went to the Ferry Building outpost once, for a business dinner. I was sad when it closed and hope that it eventually reopens.
I was in SFO for business and one of my best friends knew one of the chefs there. He told us that if we went to dinner they would “take care of us”. And take care of us they did. They brought out almost everything on the menu, albeit in smaller portions. I have to say it was one of the best and most mind blowing meals of my life. I love Vietnamese food, and The Slanted Door’s upscale Vietnamese food was simply amazing. He will be missed.
That’s sad and a little scary. The Slanted Door in Napa is still with us.
The SF newspaper, Chronicle (?) had an article about Bill Clinton, his daughter (vegan, now they both are vegan) ate there with about 15 or so of his guests and SS agents. (She was studying at Stanford at that time)
Mr. Phan did the cooking with a couple of agents in there with him, watching the whole time.
At the end of the meal the agents took the President’s glassware and plates I believe, they didn’t want his fingerprints left around.
Of course, they enjoyed the meal, and Clinton was friendly with the others in the restaurant at the time.
what is scary, that the Napa restaurant is still there? I imagine they want to keep it going. I’m not sure they’re going to go forward with reopening the Mission District one, which was the original, and my favorite.
Scary that death can come so quickly to one so young. Also unsettling is the thought that there was a time when sixty two did not seem so young.
Very true. He was a year younger than me.
I did read that they will continue with opening the Valencia place where they originally opened. Very sad.
Very sad to hear.
i’m glad to hear it, thanks!
Sorry to hear this. RIP
