The burger at the bar is one of my benchmarks for a quality dining experience. From the Iron Horse in Westwood to The Blue Pig in Cape May there is something for everyone there and in between. Tonight was the burger at The River Pointe in Rumson.
$28 bucks, on the stemmy side, but a perfectly medium rare on a fluffy sesame seed bun, quality minerally aged funk, decent slice of Gruyère, expertly crisped fries, and extra pickles! Ate the whole thing and don’t feel like a fatty. Tomorrow night is burger night at The Red Horse right around the corner, $13 beans for that one with a glass of wine. Will post that pic!
So we went to The Red Horse for Burger Night, BUT…we got there at 5:30. Big mistake. Every seat taken (they open at 5pm). Plan B in effect, The Drifthouse. No longer affiliated with our pal David Burke, btw.
Sorry I can’t find the picture I took but this guy believes THE BEST bar burger ever is the one served at Mabel’s in Bell Works in Holmdel absolutely love it .
I was recently looking for a “burger at the bar”. And since I’ve pretty much covered the usual suspects (Pour House, Harpoon Willie’s, Barnacle Bill’s, Main Street (before it went to hell and died)) I asked one of my AI contraptions for a recommendation. Burger-behind-the-bar. Decent fries and parking. It popped up McCann’s in Belmar.
Red Horse. Tuesday night, couple of options. $20 dollar burger special comes with a salad and fries. Happy hour burger, $13 sans fries and salad. But ya can’t finish the fries and salad even between two. Anyways, solid presentation, good crispy fries and a good old fashioned English muffin bun. Value with a $12 martini.
Oops we did it again. A bar, a burger. Saltwater Bar and Grill in The Highlands. Have been following Big Mike from Berkeley Heights to Nicholas, to The Red Store, and am delighted with all he’s got going on Bay Street. $15 dollar happy hour Poppa burger with fries and steakhouse bacon. And cheese. And pickles. Tomato? Yes! Love that guy. Burger, I mean.
I love this thread!! I haven’t been going out as much and usually only go out for novel things, but I really miss going to a local tavern for a burger special. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you. Oh and respect on the martinis, I don’t think I’ve ever really done a burger and martini before even though they are two of my favorite things.
