Boston Cream Pie?

Never made one of these… but many moons ago Sara Lee made a frozen one I was very happy with. But Sara Lee ain’t Sara Lee anymore (several acquisitions) and they are nowhere to be found.

So thinking about making one but have read they only last a couple of days, and can’t be frozen due to the pastry cream. Is this all true?

It is best if you do not freeze Boston Cream Pie.
You can freeze a Boston Cream Pie if the Crème Pâtissière is made with Flour but not if it is made with Corn Starch.
There are also Recipes that call for using Cream made with Gelatin which also freezes.
Any of them will be better if not frozen but you can but personally I wouldn’t.

Much to my surprise, the local Safeway used to make a good one.

I recently had a very good one from Wegmans!

And the Whole Foods near us makes a pretty good one, both regular sized and a smaller version which is
perfect for us, no freezing required

I’ll keep my eye out for it. They often have German chocolate cake which I like, and their cheescake is pretty good (but not as good as mine).
