Bake your bread, make your desserts 2020

That is fantastic news! Glad to hear. I’m sure it was / is a rough time. Bread is certainly a good distraction… though I’ve been frustrated by the vagaries and persnicketiness of the einkorn flour that’s been my only option where I’ve been staying :joy:

I have had better luck using rye as a starter and using a combo of ap and whole grain in the dough both in rise and chew.

I have all that at home… but in the world where there is a shortage of flour, the only choice where I am is einkorn, or GF options.

Where are you? Einkorn would be an unusual item here.

Just beautiful! Applause!!!

Einkorn was already stocked at home (first stop on the road to GF). But it’s also still available at WF, when regular AP flour is not. I’m in CA, where I was visiting before NYC went sideways.

Lucky girl! I just left a month long gig in Venice. Should have shopped there.

I understand very well what you mean.

Looks like what’s on our counter at the moment. Digging my wife getting into bread baking. Took a pandemic

Incredible bread …

High praise coming from you @Barca. Tyou.

I’ve been baking bread for years but this is my first real book on the subject LOL.

Challah 101 thanks to the Jewish Food Fest thread.

Beer brownies, using Guinness. They’re nice, but I thought they would be more bitter and less sweet. The recipe calls for brown butter and I’m thinking I didn’t let it get brown enough. You can also use cold coffee if beer isn’t your thing.

You are really on a bread tear! Those look amazing! Which recipe did you follow?

This was a lot more fun than sourdough.

I’m making hot dog and burger buns for memorial day as well, using a King Arthur Flour potato bun recipe that I adapted to use levain. It took 6-8 hours to double at room temp rather than 2 as it would with commercial yeast, but the texture seems very good and it shaped up beautifully. I’ll let the shaped buns rise overnight in the fridge and bake tomorrow or even Monday morning if they don’t look over proofed.

Banana bread - which I don’t eat but everyone else loves. One bowl, no fuss. Oh and GF (I subbed the flour rather than look for a GF recipe). Choc chips.
