Bad news in the age of Covid-19

I quit going to Galveston after they opened the beaches the week before Memorial Day, a freak show, Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth itself.

The crabs and oysters will have to wait to whenever it’s safe, and nobody knows when that will be.

I don’t know the beach status and don’t care as I’m not going near them.

I agree with you on an individual basis. For society at large we need to find a way to keep people from being stupid.

I agree but this wrecks my premise that people are stupid.

As George Carlin said, “Think how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are stupider than that.”

I agree. In most states we aren’t allowed to shoot them.

“GET OFF MY LAWN! BOOM

I crack myself up.

Not to mention that the problem in most states where one might think it would be legal, it usually actually works out the other way around… sigh

I live in Texas. It’s a gray area.

Contrary to popular belief we do have laws in Texas and if you shoot someone committing a crime on your property you are going to have to seriously lawyer up.

That being said I have two loaded shotguns close by with plenty of ammo. One is my Father’s 80 year old Model 11 16 gauge loaded with 4’s and it still shoots like a dream. There is also a double twenty I was given when I was 12 with buckshot.

Ya never know.

On the other hand, you could be stuck in Lake Wobegon where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.

In Spain they announce it on the T.V. News …

On my way to lunch Wednesday, I was chagrined to see a herd of people, all close together, but unmasked, walking outside at a shopping pace. We have lots of little boutiques, galleries, and ice cream/coffee type places in town, so it’s a popular place for people from other areas to come over for a day trip. Luckily (maybe) I was a passenger in my car, with my window on child lock, because it malfunctions frequently, and doesn’t roll back up. Got so irked at those damn people, I waved my mask at them and told them to effing wear them. I would have rolled the window down if I could have. H was startled at my outburst because I’m very much live and let live. Until Covid, and now it’s a lot different. I hope the shopkeepers didn’t let them in, but I’ve noticed most businesses are providing masks, and strictly enforcing the mandate. That’s a good thing!

This story is so, so depressing. It would be at any time during this crisis. But, when the metro area is now under much stricter restrictions than much of the UK, it is doubly so.

Agree @Harters, so damn depressing. If I’d been able to get my window down, I’m not sure I’d use the word effing. It would have been the whole cigar, so to speak. Very unlike me, to do anything like that in public, but it’s selfish, cavalier, and possibly deadly behavior on their part. I AM Covid paranoid, and the lunch outing was the first since the shutdown. Sooo, it’s especially affronting when H and I are doing everything we can to stay safe, and by doing that, keeping others safe too.

I have a 30-something nephew in Florida who has 2 young daughters. We have never seen him wear a mask in any of the photos he posts with his girls on FB (although the girls are masked when in a public place). And he also makes fun of mask-wearing - I just gave him a tongue lashing on FB. It really disturbs me. We’re all in this mess together. Seems so disrespectful of others not to mask up.

Evidently per @Rooster, a lot of people are outing themselves on social media. HO is the closest I get to the other platforms.

But yes, very disturbing, and if the kids see the parents being casual about it, guess what they’ll do?

I’m also amazed by the people that still believe Covid is only as deadly as the seasonal flu. Really? I guess the Public Health docs are speaking about it to the point of hoarseness, merely to cause alarm, Docs and nurses breaking down, full ICU’s and refrigerated morgue trucks are all lying, and it’s just like a typical flu season…unbelievable to me @retrospek. Yep, some of my own family members believe this, and I’m still puzzling over the DNA!

I just gave guitar lessons on Zoom. But I’m not opposed to wearing a face shield and sitting opposite sides of say a living room if the client is healthy.

What I’m not keen on is casual behavior and then lying about it. If you are going out and ignoring the recommendations don’t LIE about it.

Agree with all, but if there is a statewide mandate in place everyone should wear them, unless they’re on a hike, camping or on bike trails. I think they should be subject to fines. But not enough law for that. So shame on them @Rooster. Must add too, unless they have a medical condition that would preclude them, like being on oxygen.

I can ride any road in this country and see drivers of all ages talking on a cellphone and/or txting while driving…enforcement seems to be a weak link. For every officer out there being the community example to wear a mask, you’ll see an officer off duty hanging out without any mask on. Mandates? I say where’s the enforcement? Soapbox aside, more good comes from doing the right thing than preaching to the impatient choir.
