I’m worried that upward trends in infections are precursors to another panic run on supplies. We’ve inventoried our holdings and have a big Sam’s Club (warehouse store) shop, mostly to stock up on meat and veg for the freezer, planned for tomorrow morning. Working on a big curbside pick-up on general groceries (all the aisles in the middle) for tomorrow afternoon. In-person produce run Thursday morning. We think we’ll be on food overload tomorrow night so we’re planning Chinese take-out for dinner. grin
Lots of cooking planned this weekend. Lasagna (three 8x8s) to feed the freezer and two gallons of pasta sauce for home canning. I’ve lost track of what my wife has planned.

That seems like a not unreasonable opinion to hold. From press reports on this side of the Atlantic, it appears that a number of states no longer have the grip on this virus that folk might expect them to have.
Caveat - I’m fully aware that press reports are not necessarily facts.
I’m fortunate to be in Maryland where things are doing okay but we’re seeing small increases in infections. Conditions are deteriorating as cabin fever (<- opinion) leads to more people behaving poorly.
So, no more reviews of the crab quesadillas, crab enchiladas with special Marisco cream sauce, beef fajitas, queso flameado and Skinni Rita’s. I always planned on making it there on the way to Galveston. Neither one is looking good right now of course. Stay safe and best wishes to all in Houston.
I’m hoping they’ll both be ok, but with each passing day I get a bit older and realize there are fewer guarantees in life.

I’ve heard today of a very shabby scam. Not unexpected but shabby nonetheless.
My niece had a phone call from someone pretending to be from the UK’s National Health Service Covid Test & Trace service. They said that she had been in contact with someone who had tested positive and that she now needed to get a test. They would make the appointment but they required her credit card details as there was a charge of £50. At which point the niece, who knows that the tests are free, put the phone down on the bastard. But there will be others who will be taken in.

Yep.
We certainly have rogue contractors. Often associated with the traveller community. Their pitch is along the lines that they have been working nearby and have excess materials, so can do a job cheaply - often tarmac for your driveway. Invariably a shoddy job that breaks up as soon as you try to park your car on it. Or “clean your gutters, boss” or “you’ve got loose roof tiles” (which alwasy end up being more than they first spotted). The latter actually tried that on with me last month - fortunately I knew abou tthem and had actually arrnaged for a local contractor to come and do the job.
Just had a pest control guy come around door to door; said the neighbors had a horrible infestation, without realizing it, and they had a great special right now, yada, yada. Felt like telling him to spray himself, as he was becoming a pest about it. I’m always really nice, since I don’t want retaliation of any kind. Not bad talking to another human being besides H either. Need to get out one of these days…
True that @Babette, we used to do a DIY treatment every year for both carpenter and smaller ants. In the last few years, we weirdly don’t see any at all. Makes you wonder…
