The fans of IF (I’ve been reading some online threads on it) call that a “15:9” schedule.
I’m off to Spain next week, so I’ll be struggling to maintain that regime with the later dinners, but lunch is also later so it might even out
If I were going to Spain for a week, I’d just eat whatever and whenever I wanted.
(“sighs, having missed out on 3 freebie corporate trips to Spain due to conflicts”)
You’re absolutely right, and it’s two weeks . IF be damned!!
My dinners consist of a local fish and salad most days. Maybe a BSCB on occasion
Although a pescatarian diet has risks as I was reminded that mercury is not an uncommon element in ocean fish these days
Congrats!
I’ve been doing this everyday for about 10 years and it’s let me eat whatever I want at dinner. Sometimes I’ll head to a food destination for lunch but at most once a week.
If I gain 3 pounds, I cut carbs for 3-4 days and I’m back to steady state. I also try to work out at least 3 days a week.
Recently I’ve struggled a little with this diet, extreme hunger pangs around 3-4, not sure why but have gained 2-3 pounds recently…
I always come home from Spain or Greece the same weight, because I walk so much, portions are reasonable and the food is so satisfying.
I frequently worry about weight gain when i travel but i usually come home the same weight or slightly less, for the reasons you mention.
Which is yet another great reason to travel.
Back at it.
And, what not to follow:
Good luck!
Thanks. I might be down a pound. LOL.
I was hungry all night last night so that’s a sign there’s a deficit.
I don’t know if you like boiled eggs or cottage cheese but when I eat those, I’m not hungry.
I’m a big fan of fat free cottage cheese with quartered tomatoes or grape sized tomatoes and a good grind of black pepper. Or red salsa.
I overheard a disturbing conversation in the locker room this morning. Several guests were discussing how they lose weight: a cocktail of metformin, insulin injections and ozempic jabs. It apparently works for them, they’re losing up to 8 pounds a week with minimal physical activity and not much food moderation. They say their doctors are ‘pleased’. I understand metformin and ozempic have some of the same side effects, ie: digestive distress. Scary! That conversation was scarier than some of the political ones I overhear.
I’m on Metformin, no significant weight loss or “side effects” but my blood sugar numbers are excellent. My endocrinologist seems to think that I’m interested in Ozempic, which I’m def not, because I turn 65 this year and it’ll be a lot cheaper for me with our provincial health insurance(OHIP). No thanks.
It might not be available in Canada but I’ve been buying Good Culture cottage cheese. They have both low fat and regular but label reads much better than Knudsen. $5 for a pint is the lowest price I’ve found.
I have mixed feelings about Ozempic, but it has worked fairly well, so far, for me. I was 25 pounds over my normal weight and in Afib (despite working out) starting in late 2021 so my doctor prescribed Ozempic for me in July of 2024. I have been on it (off and on) for the past 26 weeks and am 2 jabs away from finishing my second pen. I followed the dosage instructions on the first pen and both my appetite and food intake dropped within a few weeks. The first pen lasted 11 weeks but after the dosage amount ramped up I had fairly severe acid reflux/indigestion nearly every night.
But I lost 21-22 pounds and got out of Afib. So there is that.
I was able to maintain my weight after the first pen ran out so I stayed off it for a couple months and got another pen 6 weeks ago in an effort to get all the way back to my pre-Covid weight, which I accomplished in Tokyo 2 weeks ago. I tried to exercise and diet but I was not able to make any real gains. I started to lose weight within a few weeks of starting Ozempic and lost around 20+ pounds in 11 weeks, and felt much better other than the acid reflux. I work out mildly, but frequently, and walk a little, but this did not help my weight issues before Ozempic. Before Covid I worked out fairly hard at the gym 3 or 4 days a week, both weights and cardio, and was pretty fit. But my gym closed for Covid and I lost the workout habit.
I was on Metformin earlier and hated it, it made me dozey and tired. Now I am off all my Afib meds and just taking Statins and Ozempic, and I will take my last O jab in 9 days.
Maybe I will get another pen in the spring if my weight goes up, but I will try to maintain my weight without the pen for at least 6 months and hopefully for good. I have a Peloton that I use 6 days a week (30 minutes each time) when I am home, plus I learned how to turn down the volume of the Peloton instructors voice, so I am good to go! LOL!
As in all things, YMMV and listen to your doctor.
But for me, Ozempic has been a Godsend.
Unfortunately, I plow through plain cottage cheese or low fat BabyBels when I’m on a strict diet.
I don’t mind hard boiled eggs. I sometimes boil them in advance. I haven’t tried using them as a late night snack to stop the hunger pains. I used to eat a half cup of high fibre cereal back when I was more regimented.
So many other people are really interested in Oxempic. I think your doctor prob assumes you’re thinking like everyone else your doctor is seeing.
