Yes! I have not had as good luck with cantaloupes.
Nay to the organic yellow corn round tortilla chips. My husband thought they were too salty and we both disliked that more than a handful were way overcooked with a burnt flavor.
I’ve never had do many crappy cantaloupes in one year. Frickin crunchy no matter how long they sit.
My family came to the same. " Dang, could they dump any more salt on this!" - Dahbadger’s son.
Gotta pick your own. I got the bad on sales. No juice, hard, don’t age well.
Got a good one last week! And then a flavorless watermelon from Trader Joe’s.
I keep seeing those how-to-choose-a-watermelon videos and wondering if they’re right (big yellow patch for eg)
We’re getting an Aldi about 1/4 mile from us this fall. I’ve never shopped in one but check this topic once in a while, so I’ve been looking forward to it. HOWEVER……I haven’t carried change for years and have no desire to do so. I suppose I’m going to have to keep a quarter in my wallet or car in the future. Not going to be an easy transition.
I always have a bunch of quarters in my car for the parking meters in our town. But honestly, unless you buy a LOT of stuff, you can just grab one of the empty boxes they have around to put your groceries in. That’s what I do, at least. And I bring my own bag, of course.
I save their bags for reuse. Then burn when they’ve past bag expiration.
Now that they have self checkout, I run in all the time for just a few things. Do thankful for that service. Need limes? Gimme a sec.
YEA for the Wahlburgers uncured hickory smoked bacon! Nice chew, porky, not too much shrinkage, and not overwhelmingly smoky.
Theres no slide past the checker at US Aldis I’ve shopped in. There’s nothing at all, just open space, past the scanner.
That’s why they scan then dump into an empty cart.
Also, it is pretty rare that you can get all of your groceries out of the cart and onto the conveyor before they’ve gotten half or more of it scanned.
Thr European system works far better.
Those in DE/EU also probably staff more than 4-5 people per store.
That’s one of my gripes - they’re so short handed that when lines hit the back of the store on the one person dedicated to checkout, the person called to open a second line is deep in another project (restocking, usually) and has to drop that necessary job to clear the checkout backlog.
Meanwhile, I still can’t get my cream or chicken or whatever because the US company is too cheap to properly staff the store. I’d be willing to give the benefit of doubt (worker shortages or etc) if it hadn’t been this way at Aldi around here since they first hit the area 10 or so years ago.
But I’ve only shopped at the 3 Aldi stores around here. It could be different in other parts of US.
Nope, only a bare bones staf in European stores, too.
My Florida stores are clean, bright. mostly new builds within the last 10 years, and usualky well stocked.
Will be really interesting to watch the evolution of their purchase of SouthEast Grocers and Winn-Dixie. They just announced that theyre converting my closest WD to an Aldi.
A solid YEA for the colossal easy peel shrimp. They are plump, similar in texture to the seasonally available black tiger shrimp — i.e. not mushy like their Argentinian cousins, and flavorful. Poached the whole friggin’ bag for a shrimp cocktail app last night
I’ll have to see if my local Aldi has these. Thank you for mentioning.
It stressed me out. I like having time to bag like with like, and to make sure delicates don’t get crushed.
It’s also not a good system for those of us who don’t like to shop every day. I felt like I was always getting eye rolls for what even in the US would qualify as a small order.
Oh, sorry - that was me. (kidding!)
I am a daily shopper at (usually) 2 different stores. I can’t stand the thought of trying to lug in and properly put away a week’s worth (let alone 2 week’s worth) of groceries, and admire the fortitude of those who can do so.
So I’m always just grabbing what I need for “right now”. The only items I get in bulk are BOGO priced stuff. Like one nice brand or the other of yogurts is bogo about 1 week out of 4, so I’ll get 4 week’s worth of my wife’s supply (1 per day with chia seeds as her breakfast) the week they’re bogo, but still spread out over several days. Last week was Noosa (I think), and a few weeks ago the Chobani Greek 4-packs were bogo.
Sorry to hear that…ive never had that experience. Where I live, people do huge shops, so my trips for me and the cats is usually a fraction of the average order size.
When we lived overseas, I preferred to shop at Lidl and Aldi because the staff were all immigrants, too, so were far more forgiving of my American accent and wonky grammar. They were always kind, no matter how busy the store was.
