Aarzu Modern Indian Bistro Freehold

I’m pleased to report that Aarzu is still firing on all cylinders… had a reservation last night (made the morning BEFORE they announced they’re opening a spot in AP!). I went with friends who have heard me rave about this place for years, and thankfully I didn’t oversell any of it. The eggplant chaat is still spectacular + we ordered pani puri, which was one of the most beautiful presentations of the ‘snack’ that I’ve ever seen:

The full list:
Corn Bhel
Pani Puri
Eggplant Chaat
Duck tacos w tamarind hoisin and cucumbers
Lamb chops (now 3 for $32 and STILL worth it, imo)
Truffle Malai Jhinga (Jumbo shrimp from the tandoor over rice - I’m not a fan of truffle oil but my friends loved it and the shrimp were perfectly cooked)
Bhatti Ka Paneer Makhani (Paneer in tomato cream sauce)
Chicken Bhurani
Garlic Naan
Papadum
Orange Rind Kulfi

My friend D. was raised vegetarian but for years has been eating seafood and chicken and she was raving about everything, but freaking out about the paneer. It was so firm that it “seems like I’m eating meat protein” and she decided they must make it in-house because it was unlike any paneer any of us had ever eaten (not Feta-like, which is what I’ve always had).

I felt like we ordered too much, but in the end, it was perfect and they really got to try a range of items. If I had one minor complaint, it would be that ALL of the small plates came out at once, but I can’t really complain because it was such a wonderful feast!

We left full and happy and possibly went to Jersey Freeze because my friend A. can always eat a little more.
