Agree or disagree?
Yes.
No.
Well, you know what they say about opinions.
I have one distinct opinion about the author.
May the planets never align for me to share a table with this person.
Yes and no.
A few I agree with
Most I couldnt care less about and have no opinion (not just the Yank-centric ones)
A few are where she talks through her arse.
How about enjoying food the way you like it without putting down the way others like it? Sheâs doing exactly what she dislikes in her #5 - comparing food cities. Sheâs just comparing her food likes against what others like.
Although I will agree about Heinz ketchup and storing ginger in the freezerâŚi just grate my ginger first so my fingers donât freeze while trying to grate a frozen knob.
Before I start reading this âthink pieceâ I looked up her profile â ya know, to get a handle on her cultural background.
Two things immediately stood out to me in her feed:
âMy favorite ice cream flavor is milk,â
and her love for a sparkling orange espresso drink.
Then again, she only has 7K subscribers, so⌠Ima take her precious opinions with a grain of milk-flavored ice cream
ETA: Now that I read it. Absolute drivel. But itâs cute that she thinks anyone cares about her âthoughtsâ on stuff.
I think being a Food and Wine editor probably puffs up her ego quite a bit.
Oh, wow. Maybe I should start looking for a job @F&W. Bar seems to be pretty low there.
Many agrees, but milk chocolate > dark chocolate made me realize his judgment is highly questionable. I donât even like chocolate, but dark is so far superior to any other kind of chocolate. And that he finds white chocolate even palatable in some instances is further proof. White chocolate is vile.
His statement about vegetarian items on menus - yay to more vegetarian options (even from this non-vegetarian), but it is very American/Western centric view of restaurants. Go to places in Asia - Japan, HK at least - and the smaller, independent restaurants that specialize in certain dishes or foods and this would be a hard requirement. Your unagi/eel specialist shouldnât need a vegetarian option. And personally, I would love for more of these local specialty restaurants to open here in the US.
EDIT: My bad. When I looked closer at the tiny photo, looks like a she
I can understand this when I take into account * (https://mcconnells.com/collections/fine-ice-creams)
Sweet Cream flavor, simply cream and sugar.
I was just about to comment that
Itâs a she: Khushbu is generally a female name of Indian subcontinental heritage.
I understand kobutaâs accidental error here. Opinionated journo type with a lack of appreciation for and knowledge of the subject. Yep, bound to be a bloke.
Itâs more like I really donât like to wear my readers, so I didnât look at the picture too closely. But for sure, many food writers who like to put their opinionated thoughts out there do often tend to be male.
TOTALLY disagree with everything on #10 but otherwise I agree with almost everything he wrote about.
