Simply the best noodle dish ever created. (Well…debatably!)
Even grumpier that the blue cheese potato chips are already long gone… ![]()
If you can find Point Reyes blue cheese - it’s a really good one and not too salty either.
There’s a revolving door of niche potato chips at TJs. Bleu Cheese, Garlic Butter, Horseradish (is this one new?)……. all flavors that seem to garner mixed reactions and come and go. The only thing I find consistent for them is that my wife doesn’t seem to like any of them, but I do. Her favorite is the Olive Oil chips, which have been a staple for a while. Go figure.
My favorite used to be called Reduced Guilt, a bit lower in fat I guess. Aqua and yellow bag, super crunchy, just perfect. I can usually resist buying them. Regular potato chips in big markets (Lays etc) don’t tempt me.
The Reduced Guilt were my favorite too – they weren’t “diet” chips in any way, just not greasy, perfectly crunchy, and the right thickness.
The horseradish chips have been around for years on and off. I like the flavor but find them just a bit too thick.
Agree. Anyway they’re the same exact chips now, just with a different label.
Bought these yesterday on your rec and loved them! Thanks! A YAY for sure.
Were those kettle chips? I believe there is the equivalent at Aldi. 40% less fat.
Just bought this rice cracker medley today and was not aware of it before I don’t think. Google shows it back as far as 5-6 years ago. Pretty good stuff. Is anyone familiar with it? Our local TJs is smallish and it’s possible they’ve been around since then and not here.
Tried the Tortilla Espanola for dinner tonight. I thought it was a new product – I don’t ever recall seeing it before – but when I googled for the link just now I saw some old threads on other sites, so I guess not. Regardless:
MEH, leaning toward YEA. Microwave defrosting instructions, especially given that it’s an egg thing, were a bit scary: 10 minutes! I followed it – I wasn’t in the mood for the 18 minute stovetop option – and it did in fact come out as promised, with a nice texture, not at all rubbery. It’s certainly potato heavy, light on the onion – feels a bit more like a potato dish than an egg dish – but overall tasty. It’s desperately, desperately in need of some additional seasoning. I think it could be nice paired with an aioli/alioli but I didn’t have that so it got what I did have which was a squeeze of Kewpie mayo and some sriracha. Served with a side salad, probably more of a lunchy vibe, but a decent enough dinner.
I don’t know if I’d rush back for more, especially after recently learning this microwave omelet trick from Jose Andres. (It works very well, and combined with his other famous hack – to use salt and vinegar chips instead of chopping up a potato – one can make a debatably better tortilla espanola than the TJ’s version, in about 5 minutes flat. I do recommend lightly torching the top when it’s done for a bit of color.)
The texture was totally off for me, completely mashed.
For a shortcut, their frozen shredded potatoes make a good tortilla.
Thanks for the omelet trick, definitely trying it.
I also will try the omelet. From what I read, nobody is greasing the ramekin. Do you?
Also curious: room temp eggs, or cold from fridge?
I did not grease it and just got eggs straight from the fridge. Worked great, popped right out, was delicious. Andres is a genius as always!
Thank you!
Interesting! Did you do microwave or stovetop?
Lulu loves these and they went into her lunchbox for years. Now she’s off at college and they occasionally make it into care packages. They’re especially good if you mix in some peanuts.
The bird’s eye pepper hot sauce is a YUUGE YAY. Really good level of heat.
