I am saddened by the reckless behaviors directed toward these food establishments. Bay Area anarchy.

Salmon fall run in Mokelumne River sets 80-year record
excerpt -
“Some of the strategies for protecting the health of the salmon run include habitat improvements, increased river water flows from the upstream Camanche Reservoir, hatchery management and the cancelation of the state’s commercial and recreational salmon fishing seasons, according to EBMUD officials.”

“The Mokelumne River contributes only about 3 percent of the freshwater flow into the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, yet its salmon population makes up as much as 50 percent of the commercial catch off the coast of California.”
Sad to see it go, Turtle Tower was my favorite pho ga in the City.
SFGate: Emeryville’s Bay Street is the newest Bay Area mall to be reborn as a foodie destination

Dislike the term foodie but this seems like an upgrade.
Is it safe to stroll there?
It’s basically a mall, with paid parking, not a real city block.
I think it’s safe but that’s me. It’s also usually busy, packed on weekends and even on weekdays, but I rarely go since it’s busy and paid parking. How busy? Faster to go to the Apple store on 4th St., instead of Emery Bay. Always a zoo.
It has been 23 years since I was at the shops on 4th near Spenger’s, Ikea and Trader Joe’s, Old Navy right off the Emeryville exit. So long ago, I can’t remember most of the streets, maybe 40th took us back to Oakland? We had to watch ourselves back then.

1000 tamales made at Cactus Taqueria in Oakland
From Edible East Bay -
A delicious spicy aroma wafted through the room as the cooks spooned mole negro (black mole) over masa on green banana leaves. Verdin listed the ingredients: ancho, negro, and chipotle chiles; sesame seeds; coriander; almonds; raisins; onions; garlic; tomatoes; chocolate; ground black pepper; clove; chicken stock; sugar; and crumbled corn chips combined with turkey meat. Akin to the first tamales made at the Cactus kitchen 22 years ago, these tamales trace their origin to a traditional recipe from Guerrero
Nice read. 84 y.o. owner insists on staying open 24/7. Use to have office near there. Never got the donuts. Funny, this was published by the LA Times.
Fisherman’s Life snares 4 crabs while snorkeling in a wet suit in 15 feet of water somewhere off the Northern California coast. While sitting on the rocks, he boils the crab, adds butter and pepper and eats it along with the crab butter in the carapace. Excellent narration while he is underwater.

Thien Pham, comic artist and author, graphic novel “Family Style: Memories of an American from Vietnam”
From KQED -
Thien Pham’s new graphic memoir, “Family Style”, tells the story of his family’s journey, when he was a young kid, from Vietnam, to a refugee camp in Thailand, to making a home in San Jose. It’s a story told through his memories of the meals he ate along the way.

Always my favorite
