2023 Grocery Outlet [California, Oregon, Washington, etc., etc.]

New snacks du jour, each $1.99. I dig the idea of a savory nut bar with only 1 g added sugar. The magic spoon bars use allulose & monk fruit to sweeten so I’m more skeptical of those.

Spicy soup, $4.99 in the refrigerated section. Does not actually contain seafood, maybe had a slight hint of the plastic packaging but otherwise satisfying. I love Korean spicy tofu soup and there are few restaurant options for it in my part of town, so I’d buy this again.

I got a free sample of that Nature Valley savory bar. I really liked it, and it’s nice to have a not-sweet nut bar.

Fall wine sale in full swing. A lot of Shale Oak bottles to try.

Also picked up some Anchovies in olive oil that i hadn’t seen before.
Found a bag of kimchi soup from Assi. the sodium level is off the charts
Saw cans of quail eggs in water, curious about those

Edit: i opened the shale oak zin and syrah. sadly they are turned.

Oh… I so want those chewy ginger candies. What a deal!

Buy them and enjoy them for me, please ; )

Uh oh. I bought that Shale Oak grenache. Hoping the younger age means it is still good. (Most of what I’ve bought so far has been Portuguese and Spanish except for that and two bottles of the Bonny Doon Le Cigare rosé.)

Red Alert! Red Alert! Muir Glen organic diced tomatoes spotted (and scooped-up) at the Bonney Lake, WA store. This time they are 4-packs of the 14.5 oz cans for $1.99, instead of the big cans. Also notable recently is the return of the Safe Harvest jarred clam chowder again at $1.99 each at a couple different Washington State stores. I took a trip to the newly opened store in Kingston, WA and found it pretty basic but with an oddly large selection of Asian sauces and some nice 48 oz containers of Full Circle organic chicken broth ($1.50). And they had Japanese shishito peppers, which I have not seen at other locations. This store had some basic everyday Grocery Outlet items priced 19 or 20 cents higher than elsewhere. The place to check for this seems to be the gallons of Crystal Geyser water, where other stores have them at 99 cents; there they were $1.19 and I noticed the same on things like the Di Marlino pasta at $2.19 instead of $1.99.

My daughter bought this incredible yogurt, probably on Geary SF, a bit pricey at $2 each.

I went there today to get more, none on the shelf. I thought it was worth asking a worker. He went to the back, brought out 4 small cases. I got more of passion fruit, a strawberry and a honey to try, passed on the plain.

I also love their blue eggs, not on shelf. He found some in the back for me. Really dark golden yolks!

A good haul today.

Thanks for the tip— I got a bunch on S Van Ness. Excellent enough that it gets away with relatively little added sugar.

High in fat though, I’ll try not to eat one per day!

Santa Cruz, Cumulus 2018 Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands, $8

Picked up a case of this. Very solid CA style Chard. Found a write up and don’t disagree with it. A steal at this price. They also still have some of the Bonny Doon Rose in stock. @ $4.

focused and elegant, the wine’s aromas feature sweet golden apple, ripe citrus, tropical fruit and almond with touches of creamy yeast, vanilla and oak in the background. On the palate, the rich flavors are complemented by a light touch of toasty oak and refreshing citrus with mineral notes and bright acidity in the finish.

I just had the Annabella’s blackberry. Nice fresh berry flavor but more liquid than most yogurts. Spoon optional, you can just drink it, which could come in handy, I guess.
