No on the Frankie A book, but I do have a few cookbooks by Rick Rodgers, like them, and think he is under-rated in the genre.

I know nominations are over, so I’m just sharing this here for lack of another place. I’d be very interested in exploring the new book, Gullah Geechee Home Cooking.

Great suggestion! Let’s remember to nominate it for next month. It’s really new though, so it might take a while to trickle in to libraries and get the momentum to be COTM. I always like to go back through the previous nomination thread when the new one comes around, to see what books were nominated that I want to keep pushing.

I agree that the new Gullah book is very interesting, and also very new. I’m very interested in that culture. I, too, always go back to the previous nomination thread to remember some favorites to nominate again. When I’m especially efficient (not often!) I actually keep my own handwritten list.

thanks, Caitlin, for taking on this task. Much Appreciated!
Please see the June COTM announcement thread here:
In June, we’ll cook together from Kentucky-based chef Edward Lee’s two books, SMOKE AND PICKLES and BUTTERMILK GRAFFITI. I’ll post a reporting thread on June 1, but in the meantime, please use this thread for general discussion about the books and their recipes.
And of course, please keep posting about your cooking from our May book, The New Midwestern Table , from our recent past COTMs , or from pre-March 2022 COTMs .
Find this month’s reporting thread here:
Welcome to the reporting thread for our June COTM, where we’ll cook from Edward Lee’s books Smoke & Pickles and Buttermilk Graffiti.
To report on a recipe, put the name of the recipe in ALL CAPS and include which book it’s in and the page number, if it’s available to you. If you are the first to post about a recipe, please reply to this post. If someone has already posted about the recipe, reply to their post so all the posts about each recipe are linked for easy reference.

Believe it or not, it’s time for July COTM nominations!
Welcome to nominations for our July, 2022 Cookbook of the Month. For those of you new to this post series, here is how it works: Each month we choose a book to cook from as a group. We start by nominating books we’re interested in, and we’ll later choose from the books with the most nominations.
You many nominate as many books as you wish. Please nominate with the intention of joining us in cooking from the book and reporting on the dishes you make, should your nominee be selected. In order to …
And now it’s time for July COTM voting:
Welcome to voting for July 2022 COTM. Nominations were all over the place this time, with 24 different books nominated but none getting more than four nominations. Two met that threshold, and we’ll be choosing between them: BLACK FOOD: STORIES, ART, AND RECIPES FROM ACROSS THE AFRICAN DIASPORA, edited by Bryant Terry and FLAVORS OF THE SUN: THE SAHAD’S GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING, BUYING, AND USING MIDDLE EASTERN INGREDIENTS, by Christine Sahadi Whelan. Below each book link at the end of this post, y…
