The newest (TikTok) diet fad…
![]()
“I see this allowing men to sidestep the more feminine aspects of dieting,” said Adrienne Bitar, a professor at Cornell University who studies the cultural impact of food and health in America. “Where it’s seen as vain, frivolous, attention-seeking, superficial, men can say, Well, actually, this isn’t about vanity. This isn’t about appearance, necessarily. This is about optimization and quantifying how to become my best self.”
Mr. Cardenas said boy kibble had highlighted the differences in how he and his female friends interact with food. “I’ve noticed they’re a lot more patient with what they’re putting into their body — obviously health-wise, but they want it to taste good,” he said. “So I feel like what gives it that masculine edge is that there’s really not much to it, and it’s kind of gross the longer you eat it.”
AKA anything and everything considered “feminine” is bad.
This is one of the articles that I’ll file under “I’m too old for this $**t”. Half of this article I was befuddled with phrases like “adding protein but not in a scary way” or “the act of cooking and consuming boy kibble is often referred to as “ground beef o’clock”. Um..what??
But the closing line is maybe most fitting in that it’s described as “what gives it that masculine edge is that there’s really not much to it, and it’s kind of gross the longer you eat it.” That about sums up my feeling about this whole trend.
The ‘reclaiming’ of he-manship is both amusing and sad.
I thought this was about Kibbeh at first. Much less interesting than I thought.
The name alone gives me a massive ick. And I also don’t eat ground beef except in a burger, so hard pass on the whole thing.
I prefer girl kibbeh.
Honestly, this article would have been 1000% improved if it was about actual pet kibble or kittehs..
I’m thinking of several women I’m related to who raised fine sons who are nothing like this.
Actually I don’t know of any males I voluntarily associate with who are like this. (Of course, I’, a hermit….)
What does this make me? I’ve been known to make a big pan of ground beef, rice, chopped onions and bell peppers, a can of diced tomatoes, and Cajun seasoning and feed myself with it for days on end (yeah, I freeze some) and it is always tasty and nothing like kibble, I never get tired of it, and I don’t run into the bathroom and snap pics of my gym bod either.
Sometimes I even use barley. Oooh, low glycemic index. Never mind, but I love barley.
Dear God that’s 10 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
