Need to try the lengua. @phoenikia, where can I get them in Toronto?
I like Itacate on St Clair W a lot. Cash only I think.
Gus Tacos’ Kensington location is quite good for carnitas. I haven’t tried their lengua.
Balam on Ossington ( I think - unless it’s Dovercourt) (not Fonda Balam which closed) looks good!
I’ll add some links on our Ontario board!
If I am out at a taqueria, pork belly. I’m generally going to gravitate to corn tortillas.
But, here are some that I’ve made at home that were favorites:
- Grilled octopus (Wulf’s Fish sells vac pacs of par cooked tentacles)
- Shrimp Caesar Salad
- Beef cheek
- Bayless’s Roadside Chicken with Salsa Macha was pretty great!
- Potato and Cauliflower (Salsa Verde…and pecans…)
- Achiote rubbed salmon with pickled onions
- Pork picnic shoulder
I would eat tacos just about every day and have no complaints!
I was thinking about this thread this morning as I was making corned beef hash. We may have CBH breakfast tacos sometime in the next few days with the leftovers!
Fried smoked cauliflower with a creamy cashew nut dressing on a fresh tortilla (usually wheat).
We have winner.
Tacqueria Picoso in Arlington is a favorite. Clavel is Baltimore is just as good with MUCH better booze.
Chorizo verde does it well.
Then again, I briefly lived in Mexico, so this particular thread topic is patently difficult and pleasantly delicious.
I had a couple CBH tacos for breakfast today, which only confirms that my favorite taco is the one I’m eating at the moment. Except for that one on Winnemucca. That one was terrible.
Well, now I’m craving tacos for dinner tonight. Thanks for your service.
All the usual suspects, plus I really enjoy a breakfast taco with potato and egg. I’ve had some great chorizo ones too. If it’s pastor, it must be cut from the spit and caramelized on the flattop!
There is also a cool series on Netflix about tacos from every region in Mexico. We found it interesting.
Huzzah, I found it; it’s my favorite taco … plate.
for today
Mc-Fisher in La Paz, Mexico. Grilled shrimp and onion and grilled cheese and bacon and and
mucho mucho más
This morning I had a pop up in Instagram for a place in Manassas offering up rabbit tacos. I’d like to try that but can’t find the dang post now.
Better hop on it. {ducks and runs}
Soft corn tortillas. The only fillings that thrill me so far are traditional, though others can be very good.
My favorite around me are cabrito, al pastor, and suadero. I make my own carnitas periodically, and so I rarely order those outside the home…
Duck tacos were big around the Bay Area, about 20 years ago after a few upscale Latin/Mexican places start making them. The fat and flavor from duck make very good tacos. I still see them once in a while.
