We don’t eat fish & chips that often and it’s years since we were last at Taylors for lunch. I remembered it being busy and there’s no change in that – almost every table occupied. And I remember the fish & chips being top notch and there’s no change in that either.
We ordered Cod & chips. The woman suggested the “special” as it was cheaper – and included a side (that’ll be mushy peas, of course) and a slice of bread & butter (that’ll be for the chip butty, of course). Fish was excellent – crisp batter and the flesh breaking into big flakes. Chips were also good and just needed a drenching in vinegar. Mushy peas were properly mushy and not a puree. Bread was sliced white, just as it should be.
Wilson’s, not too far away. Building just before the railway bridge in Romiley. Grandparents and parents took me there many times. It was fish and chips, absolutely lovely, crispy slightly sweet chips soaked in vinegar. Gorgeous flakes of cod with a sprinkle of salt. I’m on a 50 thousand pound cruise at the moment, I’d happily give that up for a trip to Wilson’s. I’ll be there on my return to the UK at the end of march.

Thanks for that, Apple. I don’t really get to that part of town so hadnt previously heard of it. Apparently now called the Romiley Chippy. Nephew, who I never see, lives and chefs in Romiley.
Enjoy the cruise. I guess, at that cost, it’s a "round the world " one? Hope you’re eating your money’s worth. We have a cruise coming up in early summer. Just 12 days but looking forward to it.
