She and I have extremely different tastes when it comes to restaurants. She is all about the decor and not the food, whereas I am the opposite. Please help me find something we can both enjoy.
I’m looking for:
A warm and attractive restaurant, not too loud. She is pretty hard of hearing.
Something that feels special-occasion-y without being over-the-top fancy.
Not a tasting menu.
Vegetarian-friendly, but not a vegetarian-only restaurant.
Ideally in the 30s or lower, east or west, Manhattan only.
Any price point, any cuisine.
We just had dinner at Oyamel tonight - Jose Andrés’ semi-casual but somehow still slightly upscale feeling Mexican place adjacent to Little Spain at Hudson Yards (corner of 30th and 10th). Maybe not quite special occasion-y enough, but not loud, attractive interior, and delicious food.
We were also looking at Queensyard, but from reading reviews it sounded like the views might be better than the food. Hudson Yards and the Vessel do look quite lovely lit up for Christmas at the moment, though, so maybe worth it just for that?
