Where can I find Peking Duck in the greater Boston area now that China King is closed?

yeah, I’d say from the looks of that place that it seems like it was previously the kind of bar where people would go after bowling a couple strings at the candlepin joint that was across the street.

That’s a cool back story! Makes me really want to try the foods, now that getting out and about is easier now.

Just tried to go (July, 2021) and sadly, after so many years and delicious meals, it has closed!

Planning a belated Spring Festival celebration with friends and looking for Peking Duck options around town. Would love something at the level of the beloved, bygone China King’s traditional three-course presentation, but beggars cannot be choosers. (Peach Farm seems like a fine fallback option, as I love so much else there.) Thanks!

A shame Wusong Road detoured from their originally stated plan of offering high quality Peking duck. Perhaps when the outpost of Jaing Nan opens in the old Teatro space we’ll have another good local option. This could also be promising for a high end Chinese spot board members have been discussing in another thread.

Article in the Boston Globe by Debra First earlier this month had her swooning over the Peking Duck at Red 8 at Encore Boston. Price is somewhere north of $120 (for two persons). Let us know how it was if you go!

No, but I loathe casinos. I’ve considered tamping that down to try this place. $68 / head for a fairly elaborate five course dinner doesn’t look too bad these days.

Jiang Nan just opened in the old Teatro space overlooking the Common. It has about half a dozen locations in the NYC area and is now expanding elsewhere, including Seattle and Philly. It is a fancy “Chinese fusion” place, and its Peking duck has some fame. Right now, it is tough to get a table. I may try to walk in for lunch sometime soon. A whole duck at its Manhattan location is $90, but I don’t know what the coursing is like; some accounts suggest it’s just one or two. Will try regardless.

Wusong Road has a Peking-duck-adjacent menu offering:

Duck Tasting

Duck leg fried rice, salted duck leg, crispy duck wings with Mandarin orange dressing, five homemade bao, green papaya slaw, roasted duck breast, side sauces.

It’s listed at $88.88, but I’m not sure how many it’s intended for. I’d be curious if anyone’s tried it.

We did out belated Spring Festival dinner at Peach Farm, with Peking duck done in a one-course presentation: sliced skin-on meat with scallion, plum sauce and steamed bao. Not China King, but it scratched an itch. We filled it out with a live-tank whole fish (turbot, a species I hadn’t seen before, an unusually meaty and flavorful flatfish) steamed with ginger, soy, scallion and cilantro; surf clams with vermicelli; pea pod stems with garlic; Sichuan style eggplant; and the always off-menu Amazing Pork Chop. The comped us some tapioca soup with taro and sweet potato at the end. A lovely feast!

For all the many years I’ve been enjoying Peach Farm – it’s a standby and favorite for live-tank seafood and Cantonese fare, but I had never tried the Peking duck there. It’s offered “American style” or “Chinese style”, meaning moo shu style pancakes or steamed bao. I do miss the traditional three-course prep, though.
