What's on your mind (2026)

Sunshine had a good visit at the hand doctor today. Her soft cast is off and she was fitted with a brace that she can take on and off for showering. (No more trash bags and duct tape)

She starts “Physical Therapy” in two weeks.

Having done the trash bag and tape routine, hooray for getting rid of that!! Being able to just do a normal thing without having to think about it is such welcome respite.

Chickens and giblets. As beef has gotten wildly priced, I’ve moved on to mainly chicken and pork, other than my holiday beef splurges on good sales.

I’m buying 3-4 whole chickens a month now. They all say something like “Portions of giblets may be missing”. Yeah, I get that.

But the last 5 or so have had no giblets whatsoever. Not even an empty would-be-giblet-containing paper sackelette(*) to mock me.

C’mon, guys, it’s like you’re not even trying anymore!

(*) Not a word, but should be.

I just went through my big freezer – trying to come up with ideas for dinners that can be consumed with one hand (using what I had in stock). I really didn’t come up with anything new.

Different soups and stews, but still pretty much the same flavors.

I did see one recipe on the internet that used small cubes of bread, shredded chicken, peas, in a becamel sauce with cheese on top (baked in a single serving dish). I guess its some type of deconstructed chicken pot pie?? I’ll give it a try.

Other than that, I guess I’ll just have to start repeating certain dishes.

Bur why? Why does it work? Can anyone explain it to this math-challenged creature?

Pwetty pwease? :face_holding_back_tears:

The chicken and flat dumplings recipe @Zoeliculious posted on the chicken and dumplings thread looked good. You could make small dumplings that can be easily eaten with a spoon one-handed?

Assuming you generally dine together, would it be a big deal if you cut things up for her into bite-sized pieces?

That’s what my PIC did for almost 5 weeks after my surgery, and it was hella less limiting than sticking to things that I can eat with one hand / don’t need to be cut.

I did it wrong, and now see my mistake. After drinking 85 glasses of wine, I couldn’t subtract anything from anything.

What’s on my mind, you ask?

RETIREMENT is looking more and more enticing to me. At age 67. I’m too old for this shit. I can still deal with it, because I know I’m really good at what I do after working in Administration roles for 48 years.

The question is…Do I want to keep doing it? :woman_shrugging:

EOY 2026 or Q12027 is the probable cut date. I’ll have been at my company longer than anyone else after 12/31/26, so retiring around the start of my 26th year sounds right. We’ll see how that goes.

I know I’ll want to volunteer at something to keep my mind active and get me out of the house…my local animal shelters and food oantry are my first options.

I’m just venting here after a rough week.
There was wine before and with dinner.
That helped pulled me back from the edge of the cliff.

I have been very happy in retirement and don’t miss work a bit. Spending time with the grandkids, learning new foods and bake stuffs to make. Much better than work.

ETA, the grandkids didn’t show up until 2 years ago.

We do dine together – every evening. I suggested cutting things up for her, but received a hard “NO”!!

And you get your full social security benefit (100%) at age 67.
