What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

OK, now that we know it’s not JUST cauliflower (scallops, chicken pork), it’s worth $80. But they’ve ruined the scallops, I’m afraid. Just RUINED THEM!

Not necessarily. Seared scallops on a bed of very lightly curried or simply buttery cauliflower purée is a French classic.

There might be! I bet cauliflower grappa is a thing that exists.

@pilgrim , for me, it’s the green leafy icky stuff noted last on the list of ingredients with the scallops.

@LindaWhit, I agree they’ve over-gilded that lily!

This is Frank.

Frank showed up in our yard in late 2023. At the time, we had four cats. When one unexpectedly developed pneumonia, we had to say good bye to him, and used the opportunity to bring Frank in from the outside. He was very obviously someone’s former pet who was either abandoned or got lost. He was VERY old (probably close to 15), and had clearly been on his own for a while. When we got him to the vet, we found he had kidney issues, terrible teeth, and clearly had age-related joint and muscle issues. We fixed his teeth, got him special food, and set up a little heating pad in the living room for him. He spent his days lounging, occasionally batting at a couple of toys, and crankily meowing at us to give him head smushes. We called him Grandpa Frank, as he was always patient and gentle with the other neighborhood kittens that roamed around.

We had said goodbye to Mugsy last Thursday. Frank had been eating a little less the last couple weeks. Over the weekend, he simply.. stopped. He refused his favorite canned food, and would barely drink the juice from canned tuna. So, yesterday, we had to say goodbye to him as well.

You were an adorable old grump.

Man, this has been a shit year for cats & humans alike. I’m so sorry you had to deal with yet another loss so shortly after Mugsy’s passing.

I’ll drink to all of our lost fur babies tonight, and to a better future for all of us :mending_heart:

No kidding. In the past 21 months, we have lost FIVE (5) cats. All in that same 15-17 year old window. We now have one. It will probably stay that way for a little while, but eventually there are three kittens born in our yard that will likely be coming inside. One is about 2 years old, and the other two are year old twins.

Which means we will likely go through another round of this around 2040 or thereabouts, assuming we haven’t blown everything up by then.

Yeah, I’m def not ready for a new kitty. And I don’t know if I can/want to go through that loss again. It’s been pretty devastating this time around. 11 isn’t all that old for a cat, and friends of our lost theirs even younger.

I know how selfish that sounds, but it is what it is. Maybe next fall, who knows…

Oh, man. Good looking boy. Bad week— and bad year — for cats. My cousin had to say goodbye to her beautiful girl yesterday.(I think they’ve lost all 3 of their cats in the last year). Grandpa, be on the lookout for Mika and Ma’at.

Mine have all succumbed in that age range, except for the 20 yr old and the 6 year old.

Ohhhh hell. :sob: I’m so very sorry, Lectroid. This has been a rough 7 days for you. Frank looks like he was a grumpy ol’ sweetheart. You gave him a wonderful sunset to his life. :broken_heart:

Well, Happy Birthday to our group! I was iso the sizzling tostada recipe from Estradas and ten years later, I’m still looking.

I’m not as enamored of menus that don’t seem cohesive thematically.

Not too me. It seems more selfish to not be aware of your limits and doing something anyway.

I guess when you get some good news, bad news is right around the corner.

Sunshine had a very minor fender bender (she is fine). The damage is minuscule and I can easily fix and repaint the fender. I repainted the car about 2 years ago and still have plenty of color (paint) leftover. The car is 20 years old and she just keeps liability coverage on it.

The problem is… she got confused going to this doctor’s appointment. She has been there many times and it’s straight shot down the main road with one right hand turn to this medical facility.

Previously, I had kind of a 30 minute rule. If the trip was 30 minutes or under, she could drive herself, otherwise I would take her. Now, I think she can only drive in town and I’ll take her any place out of town.

Everything had been going great for Sunshine, no more cancer, clean colonoscopy, her Primary Care Physician was happy with her numbers, etc. I guess I got lulled into a false sense that everything was OK with her, but its not.

I’m kind of blaming myself for not noticing more of a decline.

So the cauliflower through-line isn’t enough for you? It is kind of all-over-the-place, but the restaurant’s regular menu is also like that.

Don’t. You’re with her every day. If it’s a gentle slope, you’re probably not going to see it until an incident like what you described.
