What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

I had a professor in college who suggested, when complimenting a student, the phrase “you should be proud of yourself!” or to parental units “she/he/they should be proud of themselves!” Takes looks out of it and focuses on whatever the achievement was.

I focus on the accomplishment. If the kid is dressed up for prom or whatnot, then of course a “you look lovely” is appropriate.

That’s fair. I teach high school. When kids share prom photos, my response is "You must have been so excited! Did you have a good time?’

Yeah, that works. I teach college, not much prom action.

I think I saw this at an advertising agency in the city c. 1971.

I’m worried about her. She’s not seen, let alone responded to a DM I sent a few days ago, either :frowning:

Damn.

Sure hope she has support. Prayers.

A fellow singer who’s on GLP-1 has inspired me to add another verse to No More Ice Cream Sundaes, i.e. my take-down of the beauty & diet industry. When I initially wrote the song I was terribly eager to present it to the world, knowing full well that it could use another verse :grimacing:

I always thought it was too short, but hadn’t been able to come up with anything.

Et voilà: when life inspires ‘art.’ Looking forward to performing it tonight :dancer:t2:

We will, of course, need to give it a listen once you have a version set down. To check for food-related accuracy, obv…

Peep my profile. There’s a video from a show we did for the local NPR station… last year? The year before? Who can remember :grimacing:

Song starts at 22:54. Sans the new verse, natch.

May your final verse end up as popular (or infamous?) as this final late tag-on verse.

Well I was drunk, the day my momma, got outta prison.
And I went, to pick her up, in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in my pickup… truck.
She got runned over by a damned old train.

How many times did I belt that song while playing pool at the Blue & Gold? A lot many.

Army dive bars just off post… everyone would jump up on the tables and sing (shout) it together.
