What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

Ty. There is a very special VIP ward /wing at JH where you get chef prepared meals. I’m not there.

You need to get into the VIP wing.

About 20 years ago, I was in the hospital for a relatively minor surgery that had unexpected complications. Our next door neighbor happened to be a nursing supervisor at that hospital, and my wife talked to him about something mundane, like visiting hours or something. Not long after I had settled into the standard double room with no privacy but I’m getting moved to a private room in the VIP wing (which, at that hospital wasn’t much, but it was something). After that, every nurse who attended to me managed to ask some sort of unrelated but personal question, probing me for information about who I worked for or where I came from.

After I was discharged a couple of days later, Tom came over to see how I was doing. I described the treatment and behavior of the nursing staff, and he let out a huge laugh. He confessed to calling the nursing station and telling them, “You have no idea who he is! Get him into the [VIP wing]!” He never told them that I was just an Average Joe who happened to be his next door neighbor.

That is such a good story!

And a good neighbor!

When thanked him and I told him he didn’t have to do that, he shrugged and said, “What good is authority if you can’t abuse it now and then?”

They moved away and we miss them. We see them every few years when they’re in town visiting family. They were so much better than the chuckleheads who live next door now.

@CCE @ricepad Your dialogue here reminds me to rhetorically thank all the nurses out there. As my husband says, “the nurses run the hospital, the doctors just work there.” He’s grateful for every one of his nursing colleagues. One day, their salaries will be commensurate with their effort.

My nurses were the BEST when I was hospitalized in December 2024. They’re the lifeblood of a hospital.

Did you ever see Best in Show?

It’s one of my favourite movies ever.

I don’t think so.

Funny, I could have sworn that was Kathy Najimy who played Paulette the manicurist in Legally Blonde. Goes to show you what I know. Cute scenes with the UPS guy.

Gas oven igniters. I’ve complained before. Here we go again. I think I got 2.5 years from this one (I’ve learned to always have an extra).

The OEM that came with the oven lasted, I think, about 8-10 years. All the subsequent igniters lasted about 12-18 months, except this most recent failure was more like 30 months.

Why can’t I buy whatever GE originally put in my oven that lasted 8-10 years?

Oh well, I guess I’m glad that this is such a simple fix. It takes me about 20 minutes and about 200 mL of sweat.

That’s a really good skit. Grande had a couple of seconds where she almost broke character but Coolidge was as cool as a cucumber.

Coolidge wasn’t in the skit, tho?

Hope you are. If anyone deserves a good day, it’s you.

It is what it is, but I’m fine with that. Love my buddy.
