Thinking of a Norwegian sailor who was a customer of my late boss . Lived above Santa cruz with a view of the bay . He was a mate on sailing ships .
He opened his sea chest and had shown me the horn of a Narwhal.
I dislike very much waking up to the sound of chainsaws and the ensuing ‘thhhummmph’ of another fallen tree. Then another. P’s me off. Joni Mitchell comes to mind.
It happens in my old, leafy city neighborhood a lot. Not because of rebuilding, but because the old trees die. When I moved into my place, there were huge oak trees in front of my windows. They belonged to the building next door. They’ve all been cut down now, and I get to stare at parking pavement. I miss the bired and their singing, too.

Thank you!
I checked out Merlin this morning! I like how you can see all the birds you’ve heard, and the ones that are singing light up!
This was 10 minutes, after which it asked if I wanted to keep recording.
Sometimes, life provides just enough comedy to make up for the darker times. Here for it.
Life IS a cabaret, old chum
People will pay me not to sing and dance!
People pay me to sing, but my dance moves could use a lot of work
Very cool! I just downloaded it.
Wow! Going to send this to my mom.
We have a lot of birdsong early in the morning, and are always guessing what the birds are (other than the koyal/ koel, which is completely distinctive).
I’ve taught a dance class. Literally twice.
I use a similar app, PictureBird for bird song. Love using it when we’re down in FL since the avian population is different from home.
I discovered it after having downloaded PictureThis to identify plants and flowers on my walks. I get a kick out of the different plant names.
There’s also Picture Mushroom, but I haven’t used it much yet. I’m less of a forager than an explorer / seeker of knowledge that I proceed to immediately forget.
As evidenced by many pics I took of the same flippin’ plant
Sigh. I am so OVER winter at this point, We got a few flurries a day or so ago. WTF? It’s mid-April!
Get it together, weather! Sheesh
Yeah. Same here. I think it’s switched over to rain, but it’s just gross out.
Wow, you got real snow. When I stumbled into the kitchen this morning I looked out the window and saw some white stuff covering the lawns and roofs. Took a minute to realize it was snow
