Allergies suck. I didn’t have a single one until my thirties, and now I’m complaining about air quality and seasons and a pile of other things I never paid any attention to before.
I’m glad you were able to figure out a fix! A few other ideas, in case:
-Oral probiotics (they make a big difference!)
-Tonsil stones are often a thing. There are all kinds of treatments and YMMV, but they can be extracted at home and I’ve read that rinsing and gargling with hydrogen peroxide (or a whitening mouthwash that contains it) is also very helpful. Salt water gargling after eating is often recommended.
If you continue using a neti pot, please use either distilled water or boiled, cooled water to reduce the risk of brain-eating amoebas etc.
Thanks. As I said earlier, I boil the water. Also, no tonsils so probably no stones. I had never heard of tonsil stones until Spawn2 showed me a video. I nearly lost my lunch.
Why not just use distilled water and save you a step?
I’d have to buy and store the distilled water. Plus, I like the water to be warm (roughly body temp) anyway, because it seems to feel better going in. I’ve found that it only takes about half an hour for the water to cool from boiling to a comfortable temperature.
Distilled water costs money, boiling water is, well, not free, but less than distilled water by an order of magnitude or so.
At least, that’s why I boil it on the rare occasions I’ve used a neti pot. Sure, it’s only a dollar or two, really, but why buy something and schlep it home and throw away the bottle when It’s done etc?
Gotcha. My PIC buys distilled water by the gallon & stores it in our guest bathroom, so it’s usually room temp. I don’t think he wants to boil the water for his neti-pot first
Oops, that’s what I get for replying without reading the whole message. Sorry.
I swore (maybe a NY resolution) that I would not look at the clock when ‘the 15+ # black cat’ shows up at some ungodly hour looking for attention. Thinking it was about 6 am, a good time to get up today, I got up and #@√℅, it was 2 effing thirty am. Attention, just attention. What is it?
RIP to the great cartoonist and author, Jules Feiffer who passed away at 95. I was only aware of his cartoons and didn’t know he had written screenplays and other things as well, especially the screenplay for “Carnal Knowledge”.

Some of his, IMHO best work. The last one is bordering on a verboten subject here on HO, but I’m hoping it’ll be allowed.

He also uses it for our humidifier, so none of that precious liquid goes to waste.
He also wrote We Bombed In New Haven and Little Murders, which was certainly a movie that’s very relevant today.
“We Bombed in New Haven” wasn’t familiar to me so I looked it up. It was apparently written by the famed author of “Catch 22”, Joseph Heller.
But “Little Murders” was indeed written by Jules Feiffer. I have not seen it, but added it to my “watch list” on YouTube after viewing this trailer. Parts of it are very reminiscent of one of my absolutely favorite films, “The Prisoner of Second Ave.”
Here’s the free HD upload of “Little Murders” which I will watch. Other uploads are also available for free viewing.
Upon reflection, you’re right. In getting old!
Oh well, at least they both had a similar outlook on life!
I would very much agree on that!
A dear friend is going through a difficult separation and divorce from a toxic partner (after 25 years of marriage and 35 years together, since they were teenagers) and has been sharing / venting frequently (from reflection, self-help reading, therapy, and all the rest).
I was surprised (and saddened) by how the descriptions of his partner as a passive aggressive narcissist could as easily have been about more than a few people in my own life, personally and professionally.
The skilled manipulators aren’t scary people that yell and threaten.
Perpetrators want to be known as kind, sensitive, helpful, and misunderstood.
What a manipulator wants more than anything is your sympathy, because if they can get your sympathy, they can get away with anything.
It’s hard to watch someone close go through what is effectively detox, not from a substance but from a person, a part of themselves, and a significant portion of their life.
I am tired. Tired of the cruelty, tired of the bullying, tired of the posturing, the behind-the-scenes machinations, the endless fucking scheming.
I am tired. Sofa king tired of this.
WOW… that’s a long time! I’m very sorry to hear about your friend.
I don’t understand this post??
Am I missing some back story??
