What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

Glad it went well. Sorry it’ll take 2 weeks to learn the result, though. Is she forbidden to even attempt using the vocal cords until then? I remember a long-ago acquaintance who had something like that and she was told she could reduce effectiveness if she tried to talk.

Not sure what you’d do with someone who habitually talks in their sleep, though. Drugs?

A pillow and light pressure.

KIDDING, OF COURSE!

She can attempt to talk after 24 hours, but the doctor wants her to keep it minimal.

I’ve been asking Yes/No questions, so she can nod or shake her head.

I’m going to attempt to discourage any long conversations.

Can she type to you?

I gave her an old notebook to write things down.

She can also beat on the old pot I gave her to get my attention (if she needs me).

@Desert-Dan How has Sunshine been feeling? How often is she beating that pot for your attention? And how are YOU doing?

All in all, Sunshine is doing pretty good. The doctor told her to try to say a few words. They are still coming out weak and raspy, but that is to be expected until she heals up more from the surgery.

Sunshine hasn’t had to beat on the pot all that much. I check on her from time to time… seeing if she needs anything.

As for me, I’m just trying to stay organized – making lists – what has to get done today, etc.

I did get a call from Neighbor #2, she threw her back out. So, I’m back to cooking for three for a little while. Luckily, I have some meals in the freezer, so I can use those for her.

Thank you…

My mother was very kind and giving, I guess she kind of rubbed off on me… :slightly_smiling_face:

Good Housekeeping being dickheads.

I’ve had a stuffing recipe tab open since Monday. Today when I went to look again, they decided to paywall it and demand that I buy a sub.

Too close to Thanksgiving, and the interest in recipes like this, trying to force peeps to sub?

Seems like dishonorable behavior.

Edit - Wayback Machine for the win.

The Wayback Machine has been a help multiple times! Can sometimes take awhile to get where you need to, but you can usually find what you were looking for.

I think so, but I think it also a given page needs to have been not-paywalled at some point when they crawled it. (I’m not too up on how it works, other than remembering the flap when some famous journalist got them to delete all of her tweets out of their archive, because people were being mean to her for pointing out her prior public/twitter statements.)

In the “Why now!?” category…

Busily prepping the bird, the stuffing, taters mash and taters sweet even sweeter, pies, green bean casserole, bread, etc., when my favorite whisk snaps a tine/loop.

Okay, not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.

So I “fixed” the whisk. Meanwhile, my wife is vacuuming the downstairs apartment because my 2nd daughter is bringing her boyfriend, bumps toilet tank with vacuum and that’s enough for the rotted tank gaskets to start streaming water onto the floor.

“Why now!?” again. Oh well off to home depot for a new tank bolt kit, install it and go back to cooking.

Edit - i should add that I got very lucky in that i could remove the old bolts via the nuts underneath, because the screwheads on top were completely rusted out.

Gotta find a way for the news to not spike my blood pressure. But I just opened a web page and saw the current events. I don’t want to live under a rock, but I can’t absorb the constant insanity any more. Anyone else blocking out the news a little (or a lot)?

I get the NYT morning email, which is usually enough to last me for the next 24 hours. But TBH, it’s damn near impossible to avoid, unless you stay offline.

Yeah. That’s where I’m heading. I have started deleting all of my social media and reading more. Since I almost exclusively stream now, I don’t run into it watching tv and reduced my podcasts as well. I guess I have been moving in this direction for a while. A different kind of cord cutting.
