That’s why I always take 2 favorite knives, a cutting board, a whisk, and a tall-sided skillet type pan to vacation rentals.
Except last summer my wife convinced me not to (because we were flying and were not checking bags). The VRBO in VT had those cheap party-color-painted Cuisinart knives. I actually drew one across my forearm (without breaking skin) while complaining to my wife about how dull they were.
She’s like, “stop complaining, we’re only here 3 days until we head to ME”. I answered, “Yeah but I’m making chili tonight, so you just volunteered to dice the onions & chilis and mince the garlic”.
Scrounging further around the kitchen I found a never-used honing steel with some really aggressive grooves that got the knives into pretty fair working order.
Then there was that corporate team-building chili competition event in a barn in Texas with VRBO-level equipment.
