What's on your mind? (2024)

Good idea! OTOH, when I go to gatherings with people much younger than I, they somehow make it work with split features on apps like Zelle! :person_shrugging:t5: OTOH, I’ve never been in a group thatlarge!

I hate the check splitting part.

I always have to remind the newer additions to my chili heads group to bring cash for our Sichuan jour fixe. I order family-style for the entire table, which can be anywhere between 10-20 peeps & collect the cash from everyone afterwards.

It’s usually my younger friends who have to reimburse me through PayPal or Venmo.

Not a biggie, TBH :woman_shrugging:t3:

It’s also nice to have cash on hand when I’m unexpectedly hit with a 4% credit card charge at a restaurant. Why should I have to pay their cc fees.

Agreed! Hopefully they charge less for debit cards. The fees for debit cards are usually much less.

OTOH, there are times when using debit cards might be risky.. I have been happy to notice that more and more restaurants in the US are bringing the card reader to the customer.

But what’s actually on my mind is loved ones making big medical decisions.

Years ago husband established a separate checking account to use with a debit card for restaurant and online purchases. It is not linked to our major/normal checking account, so there is a measure of security since we keep only a small balance in the secondary account.

( I hope all of your loved ones’ decisions work out well.)

And this is why I get my eyeballs checked annually! Although the stoopid Vision Service Plan will only allow me new eyeglass frames every two years. Stupeyheaded insurance companies.

If only vision issues were the problem here.

Do you have an ā€œAmerica’s Best Contacts & Eyeglassesā€ place in your area??

If so, they have a special two pairs of glasses and eye exam for $79.95.

They will try to up-sell you on ā€œscratch resistant coatingsā€ and other stuff. I just keep saying ā€œnoā€ and get the basic eyeglasses. I’m too old to worry about designer frames or any of that stuff, so the basic frames work great and they do look good.

No, mostly VisionWorks and LensCrafters. And I like different looks (and I want the non-glare coating on the lenses so people can see my eyes when I’m talking with them).

I just hate when they sell a frame one year and don’t sell it the next year, so I’d have to send in my current pair of eyeglasses for them to fit the new Rx lenses. Ummm, I need them to read and drive, so that’s a big NO. Which means I had to buy a new set of frames last year so I could send in the frames I REALLY like this year to get new lenses. Definitely a racket.

I just need my glasses for night driving, so I can get away with a cheap pair.

Yes, definitely a racket!!

We have had 10+ years good experiences with Zenni Optical.

Very good prices, never a glitch in prescription filling. I wear progressives which can be hard to create. You choose a frame and submit a prescription, supply pupil distance, add whatever coating or not that you want. All online. Glasses received by mail in about 2 weeks. Telephone support when necessary.

I’m still old school - I like trying frames on and comparing. I know there are some that allow you to get 6 frames to test out and send them back. I’m still more of an in-person purchaser when it comes to eyeglasses.

I’ll need an entire gospel choir for my new song
