What's on your mind? (2024)

I’ve thought about those, but since it’s the only full bath, a bathtub would be better for resale (at least in my area of the Northeast) . The complex is a good place as a starter home - 1 full bath, 2 bedrooms (i.e., kid’s room), so a tub would be needed for children. Reglazing it would be very cost effective, and pretty inexpensive. Ideally, I’d like the tiles throughout the bathroom and the tub to be done at the same time (plus the minor fill-in repair for the bathtub door removal), so overall cost doing both would be combined.

I should probably at least get an estimate to do that so I have an idea of the cost, right? LOL

Could you do it in increments, maybe? They practically gutted our bathroom of everything, had to put in new drywall, etc. etc., but I think the tiling took the longest.

Thankfully, we have a guest bathroom we could use, and I would flee into the guest room when the workers showed up in the morning. And we tiled the backsplash of our kitchen with the same crew, and put in a new floor. And now we are broke again woo hoo.

Yeah, as I noted, I’d like the tiles and the bathtub done first with reglazing. That, I think, is the biggest job to be done. Toilet’s already done; if the tub and tiles were done, it would certainly brighten it up in there a LOT (as well as replacing the horrible vanity light).

Of course, Googling has shown there to be several glazing companies in my area, so I just need to bite the bullet and get a quote.

Yes… and its actually a very easy DIY project!!

I used this kit on the guest bath tub:
Tub re-glaze

At my age? Nope - I’m going to pay someone to do it.

If you can clean your bathtub, then you can re-glaze it.

It’s very easy – the only “issue” is the smell while its drying. When I did mine, I put it on, opened the windows and left the house for the day.

At almost 66yo with bad knees and back, I’d rather pay a professional to do the tub and ALL of the tiles throughout that entire bathroom. I’m the better cook, my sister is the better DIYer.

But good to know re: the smell while it’s drying. I have two cats which I’ll need to keep out of the upstairs while it all dries.

Absolutely!! The smell is very strong – the cats will need to be sequestered to the downstairs area during drying.

FWIW, also maybe talk to a remodeling company to learn how they manage project schedules in the case of single-bath homes?

In our previous house, we had the main bathroom gutted/redone at the same time we upgraded a lower-level (basement, technically) bathroom. The jobs took about 1 month from start to finish because the main bath was taken down to the studs. This needed to happen and we deferred as long as possible.

Scheduling was an extra big deal for me because the lower-level bathroom opened onto my home office where I worked. This happened back in the day before many people worked from home. Contractors weren’t accustomed to dealing with that, but accommodated us because we emphasized the situation before hiring the contractor.

The timeline terrifies me. My bathroom is falling apart; it’s 35 yrs old and the tub during pandemic times became a storage receptacle. The shower is … sketchy. And that’s kind. I can afford the redo - it’s just the dread. … and I have a 2nd bathroom that’s frozen in time :eyes:

Thanks for sharing before and after pix.

Focused on local irritation about the Secret Service protection of one of the veep candidates. Specifically, motorcades taking his kid to private school and closure of a local pocket park that residents use heavily. Understandable but annoying nonetheless.

I saw the article. And the park is really tiny. I know folks who live in the area; not necessarily in the neighborhood.

Whats on my mind at the moment is the 2.4 HOUR MRI I just had.

150 minutes of nothing to look at but the inside of a tube 4 inches in front of my face, while a machine tells me to hold my breath for 20-30 seconds (and once, over 50!) at a time every minute or two, while clacking, banging, buzzing, and shrieking around me.

I am not claustrophobic. But god damn, I could not get out of that thing fast enough.

This sort of length is normal when doing cardiac MRI’s, but the techs were very impressed with how little I moved and how long I could hold my breath. They said if I ever have to do another one, let them know I can go past 30 seconds and the exam could go much faster.

So, I got that going for, which is nice.

I also got another earring, bringing the total to 4 ( 2 in each ear). One of them is an original steel ring from The Gauntlet in San Francisco, circa 1994. The Gauntlet was one the first dedicated body piercing shop in the country and my ring was likely made by Jim Ward, the founder. So I have a little piece of counterculture history in my ear.

My longest MRI was was 40:00 and I just about lost my mind. Did you at least have music piped in? (I did.)

No. No music. I needed to be able to hear the machine giving me breathing instructions.

Seriously, if you have the option to skip having a congenital cardiac condition, I would absolutely do that. 0 stars. Would not buy again.

Brave guy, You made it! I had one this afternoon, too. One hour to the minute. I think this was my third or fourth of my abdomen. This round I requested eyeshades and was given a dry washloth to cover my eyes, just in case I opened them in surprise and freaked out. I got a very annoying case post nasal drip tho, and had to keep clearing my throat during the procedure. I think my highest breathe holding was to the count of 50. When the contrast injection started I could feel the coldness of it enter my arm. Glad it is done. Hope not to have another for a year or so. I am normally very claustrophobic, but somehow I have mastered getting beyond it, but I think 1 hour is my limit. Going to an earlier dinner afterwards was very nice.

I made the mistake of requesting Billie Eilish for one MRI, and “classical” music for another. The Billie couldn’t quite compete, and the hospital’s choice of classical was polka at an ear-splitting level.

Shoulda asked for the Ramones. Next time.

Should I ever have the occasion, I will go in with a playlist full of Rush, older Genesis, and Oingo Boingo.

I think Jethro Tull might be a little too acoustic .
