What's on your mind? (2024)

If you mean while I’m on my walks, I wear old shirts from my days when I was 302 lbs (I’m 166 now). They’re obviously oversized and because of that, the fact that they’re made of a thin cotton-polyester blend and that I don’t tuck them in (they’re not t-shirts), they breathe very well. I also wear an absorbent towel around my neck and comfortable walking shorts. Of course I wear a hat (a reversible bucket hat I brought back from Japan) and carry a 500 ml bottle of ice water.

I’d rather walk in the middle of the day to break up the monotony, but with this kind of intense heat, that would be incredibly stupid to do. Thankfully I’ve ALWAYS been a morning person and as I’ve gotten older, I wake up earlier than ever (around 5 AM). People think I’m nuts to be walking at all, even in the very early morning (I started at 5:08 AM today), but I must do it for both my physical AND mental health.

I walk mostly in the shade/on the shady side of the street on white concrete sidewalks, but I hope you’ll be much cooler on the dirt trails compared to the asphalt.

My local news station showed a graphic with how hot different surfaces get on 90-degree days. It really makes a difference. Their intent was to warn people about walking their dogs but us humans should take heed too. I’m glad to hear that your walking surface is white. When I do heavy yard work on warm days I keep a cold wet towel around my neck and keep an icepack around to nearby to cool of the towel when it gets warm. I understand not wanting to let days go by without walking. It’s so easy to get out of the habit when you do. Stay cool!

I walk in circles in my condo. It’s awful. But with the heat index of 107, I’m staying inside.

Thank you. I read lots of threads/posts here but in general don’t have much to say so I  things I agree with/find interesting.

At 107 I would not leave my sofa except for visits to freezer or shower. We are on a well, so our water always comes out very cold. A bummer in the winter but great in the summer.

Thank you. I see lots of dogs on my early morning walks and the owners are all very careful to walk their dogs on grass or in the shade.

I hardly break a sweat when I walk here because the humidity is usually between 4 and 11%. Japanese summers are oppressively hot and humid and if I were to walk like this there, I’d get heatstroke! I miss Japan a lot, but I don’t miss the humidity there at all.

Let’s hope all of us keep cool and healthy!

I grew up with a well. My cold water in the condo now is about 73 degrees. Pipes are above ground in our big garage.

I’m not tempting fate at my age!

Well, we broke the all-time record by indeed reaching 119°F/49℃…and humidity is only 2%:bangbang:

There was a (thankfully) VERY brief power outage and with it being this hot, I’m not in the least bit surprised.

Even walking in the middle of the night must be brutal

I walked 11.34km/7.05mi this morning at 5:08. When I left, it was 29℃/84°F and when I came back 2 hours and 18 minutes later, it was 32℃/90°F. Well, at least the humidity is low‼️
