What's on your mind? (2024)

I’m waiting for a xmas 2026 thread.

Too soon?

Ohhh, I do love the apartment on East 37th Street one. So lovely!

I love this time “between the years,” as we call it in Germany

Festivities take a break, most peeps got time off, and everything is so nice & quiet and chill.

Time to read (I’ve caught up to the 9/16 issue of the New Yorker  & plan on doing more), tidy up, reflect on the last 12 months, think about the year to come… ok, maybe not :grimacing:

Yes, that was quite a heartwarming one❣️ Generally, the funny ones are my preference, but that one was really special. The winning entry was both funny AND heartwarming, though!

I also liked the food truck “regular” one. Similar to my experience ar my favorite restaurant. Went there 2x within 2 weeks back in the mid 1990s, and the 3rd time i went there with friends, the bartenders cleared a couple of spots at the bar for us as “regulars”.

I miss going to my “regular” spots in Tokushima and Shizuoka. I was treated especially well in those two cities because there weren’t a lot of us foreigners there who were fully fluent in Japanese!

I’m bummed. Two spots where I had ‘regular’ status, a local American Chinese place and a fish and chips spot, both closed. Well, strictly speaking, the fish and chips was sold to new owners, and it’s ok, but it’s not the same. The Chinese place was remodeled into a slightly overpriced generic Japanese place with the usual bento/teriyaki/sushi roll assortment.

In either case, no one sees my number on the call and says “Hey Mr. Lectroid. Your usual?” And I no longer get a couple extra creamcheese wontons in my dinner order.

I am a regular at the indie movie house in town, so much so that I they don’t bother asking for a ticket, they just assume I wouldn’t be there if I hadn’t purchased one. I’m not alone in that status either. They’ve engendered quite a loyal and enthusiastic customer base. I’m so happy they’ll be expanding next year.

I’m usually pretty good at proofreading/editing, since it’s one of many hats I wear professionally, and I absolutely hate discovering typos or other mistakes in posts I can no longer edit.

Ditto. I’m given our marketing materials at work last and I do a final edit on it. Invariably, I’ll find something or several somethings. Having 2 grandmothers and a mother who were English/Speech teachers, AND having graduated from Katharine Gibbs, I pretty much made this my responsibility at my workplace after I saw several things printed up for a conference that had typos.

And I also dislike NOT being able to edit here on HO after the time limit. Sometimes my fat fingers screw up on a post on my phone, and I don’t see it until after that time is up. Grrr…

I generally write out longer posts (like WFD, etc.) in Word first, then c/p here. I also usually proofread several times before doing so.

I think it mostly happens when I write posts here, without the first step, and I get really annoyed at having to edit my posts here multiple times

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION!

Unless I’m on my desktop at work, I’m usually writing from my phone. I could write it in Notes first and proofread, but it’s often a copy/pasta from a FB post - which I write directly in FB. So I’m scrooed unless I take the time and proofread first. LOL

Ugh. I can’t be arsed to type anything longer than a 3-word sentence on my phone. And even then, 9 outta 10 times I’ll use voice to txt… which also usually requires proofreading before being sent

Exactly! I just do what I can and grumble to myself if I see an error after the editing time period is closed. :woman_shrugging:

Well, as a special New Year’s Eve surprise, I managed to pull a muscle in my back just an hour ago. I am supposed to perform with my band at 4pm for our traditional First Night show at one of the local churches, and we tend to draw a sizable crowd.

I am currently laid up flat on my back on a heating pad, awaiting the muscle relaxant prescription I just got through a video appointment to be picked up ASAP, and hoping it will kick in in time. I will also have to start warming up in about a half hour.

The show must go on, as they say! Hopefully it will!

Life sure keeps things…. interesting.

Is that the one in Sacramento? I think I stayed in that neighborhood last summer. I should get there.

Ummm…break a leg?

Is this a pun?? I know you meant copy/paste, but because this is a food blog and you are posting about proof reading… I have to know! (LOL)
