What's on your mind? (2024)

Adding my condolences. I hope that you are generous in being kind to yourself in the coming days and months. Wishing you peace.

Peace Be With You. Remember the best and forget the rest. Grief and relief, similar but different; working through them takes time, years even.

It is so wonderful to me, that you can do that here.

I read your post and wanted to acknowledge your feelings.

I don’t really have any words to write or know how to contribute to what has already been written.

I will say time moves forward and I hope your tomorrow is better than your today.

That’s my first thought. A hunk got stuck and went through the oven 2 or more times, finally releasing into your loaf.

Good luck on your chats with the company. I emailed photos of a very underdone sliced loaf, my guess there (based on density as well) was that it was a heavy piece of under-kneaded dough. When I toasted the bread to get more contrast for the photos I was sending, it was very apparent. Toasted brown all around the bread except a 2-inch diameter circle in the middle that didn’t toast.

So I sent the photos suggesting to them that they had a QC issue in the kneading equipment. The rep asked me for the numbers stamped on the wrapper that would indicate which facility it came from. My response was, ā€œWell, now you have a second QC issue, because neither of the two loaves have any numbers stamped on the wrappersā€.

I got a loaf once with a bunch of chaff throughout the bread and emailed that company. They didn’t ask for photos and just offered to send me a bunch of freebie coupons. Instead I parlayed my bad loaf into a plant visit. It was like an episode of my (then) favorite show, ā€œHow It’s Madeā€, but better because it was an IRL episode.

We must be vigilant in securing the safety of our food!
Eons ago, I purchased a loaf of sliced sourdough from a very well known west coast bakery. In the days before the internet and instant photos (other than Poloroid), I took photos and mailed them off to the bakery. The following Sunday (they were closed on Sundays) their rep showed up in the early afternoon with an armful of the company’s sourdough products and a huge apology! I was loyal to that brand for decades until Hostess liquidated them in 2012. RIP Colombo Bread.

Sweet!

Heavy on my mind. Just signed papers turning over ownership of our dreamboat, not to mention the 18 year wait we had for the slip to put her. We had smaller boats while we waited for the slip at Rock Harbor, we could trailer them. I think we might have had her 4 years. Just didn’t use her enough to justify the expense - I have mobility issues and couldn’t get down the docks and onto the boat, and DH has another sport that takes a lot of his time in the summer. Adding insult to injury, there are very few fish to be had in Cape Cod Bay.

It sucks getting old - giving up your dreams and not finding anything else to dream about. We didn’t come from families who gave us money to start out in the world. But I’ve been through a lot of health scares, surgeries, treatments, hospitalizations and I’m tired and beat up. So we decided to let her go. She’s moving to Virginia :disappointed_relieved:

I’m sorry. That’s no fun. If it helps, It’s better that Emily’s Degree be out on the water being part of another person’s dream then sit there unused. I feel sorry for the never used boats in my neighborhood that sit dry, covered in ivy and moss. So much lost potential. Please forgive the anthropomorphism.

Beautiful boat. Getting old ain’t for sissies but, as dad used to say, what’s the alternative? Maybe you can take some of the newfound cash and vacation somewhere with a nice deck\patio where you can relax by the water?

Thank you. I’m a bit embarrassed about commiserating with strangers but I have nobody to go to right now. And that’s the future I have - nowhere to go.

Don’t be. As you will see when you scroll up, many of our members have shared their struggles and successes, their trials & tribulations here (tho perhaps not as much as in the previous thread :scream:).

You’ve got several sympathetic ears/eyes here that don’t mind you sharing at all :blue_heart:

Just as @linguafood, noted, many of us HO members have various issues we’re struggling with…and I’m one of them. I’m at an all time low in my life and am quite happy with the support I’ve found here.

Many of my real, not virtual friends have not been as supportive as HO members and I really appreciate the group of people I’ve found here. Please feel free to lean on me if you feel I can be of any helpā£ļø
