I semi-followed the Fish with Tomato and Chile Sauce and Tahini Sauce ffrom Ottolenghi Simple tonight to use up some arctic char from the freezer. My sauce had habanero and cascabel chiles and more spices (originally called for salt and caraway. I added cumin, coriander, black peppercorn, cloves, and thyme (which I roasted whole with the cascabels and then ground). I doubled the lemon in the tahini sauce and added a good pinch of salt. Served on a pilaf of basmati rice, chickpeas, and peas. Tasty and I will probably keep tweaking this.
Maybe just rinse the glass with the Scotch? We had a cocktail once where we misted the drink with Scotch.
Leftover roast chicken became macaroni and gruyere with chicken, cremini mushrooms, fried onions, and rosemary.
Yellow beets, fried eggplant.
Purchased caramel apple cheesecake.https://www.instagram.com/p/CyGnsGTgCaq
Popcorn. Microwave popcorn. Wasn’t hungry at dinner time, spouse had reheated chard soup. Sad?
Have been forgetting to post.
Thursday - chicken porcupine meatballs in a picadillo-esque sauce over long-grain rice cooked with oo and salt, with a side of lemony shaved fennel slaw (dressed simply w/ lemon oo, celery salt, prosecco vinegar and s&p)
Friday - Popeyes on the road to camping.
Saturday - lunch was local grilled “Kielbasa” (really Bratwurst) in brioche buns, crudite and dill dip, potato chips, baked beans, pretzels, and local apples the kiddo picked on a field trip. Pilsner and a nap:
Dinner was charcuterie, homemade red pepper, pistachio, and goat cheese dip inspired by @gcaggiano, Italian crackers, pretzels, Castelvetrano olives, and a Lambrusco, also from Castelvetrano. Our friends made everyone mac n cheese, steamed broccoli, and pan-fried ham slices:
I shared a bottle of Soave I bought at a volcanic wine class, and the kids had s’mores. Aldi tiramisu as well for those who wanted. My kiddo had 3 servings!
Sunday morning - my husband cooked two packages of bacon and then poached eggs in the grease. Not my favorite, but who am I to deny him?
Sunday dinner was leftover lunch pizza and crudite.
Tonight - I made b/s chicken thighs diable and this Indian-ish rice dish adding garden lettuce. Subbed pre-fried shallots from Asian market for the onion, added toasted coconut strips, and sprinkled on chaat masala at the table:
I used brown basmati cooked in the IP. Had the dregs of some rocky road for dessert.
Now that looks hearty and good!
New York Onions got together for a Persian dinner over the weekend:

Tonight I sautéed all the mushrooms I bought in Chinatown and then didn’t cook, ate some and froze the rest.
I was planning to make Bengali mustard salmon for dinner, but the mushrooms made me wonder if I should go with miso instead, so in the end I did both. I didn’t marinate the fish, just broiled with some of the sauce and then poured the rest over. Sauce turned out delicious: miso, brown sugar, mirin, shaoxing wine, and butter to finish.
Brrrr - 45*. He made chili using a Carroll Shelby’s kit since we had it in the cupboard. Modifying here and there. I prefer buttered Ritz on the side and chili topped with sharp cheddar and a dollop of sour cream. He on the other hand likes saltine crackers, Fritos, chopped onion.
A piece of canned blueberry filling type cheesecake thing for dessert. First time I’ve used one those ready made graham cracker crusts instead of homemade but a box of graham crackers just doesn’t make sense anymore since I very rarely use them.
Cod with onion, lemon and olive relish. Getting it together to start cooking again, it’s been a minute.
Cook once – eat thrice.
Oven-roasted big chickie. An improvised gratin inspired by this one from Yotam Ottolenghi with potatoes, apples, brandy-infused caramelized onions, and gruyere. Chopped spinach greens in vinaigrette posing as a salad.
To drink, there was a bubbly blackberry shrub. For dessert, a freshly baked Meyer lemon cake.
It was all good, but the gratin (DOTQ) was fantastic.
The husband, or the poached eggs?
Southwestern Salad - romaine salad, oven roasted butternut squash, black beans, cherry tomatoes, scallion, jicama, avocado, feta, oven fried corn tortilla strips with a vinaigrette made from evoo, lime juice, agave nectar, mustard, chipotle in adobo,
That will have to be. Hopefully just a “hint” of Scotch.
Cottage Pie. I don’t think I cook local, English dishes nearly enough but this definitely hit the spot and has been requested again this week.
i have made a sweet and tangy chutney by simmering dried fruits with spices, vinegar, and sugar. It’s a great condiment for various dishes, particularly with roasted meats.
depends on the day
That looks perfect!
Wow. That’s a stunning plate of food (and I don’t even like chickpeas).
