The new Exorcist movie.

Oh, my. We finally watched Talk to Me last night and unfortunately, it wasn’t ‘all that’ either.

I’m a big horror guy, especially older horror. The original Exorcist is a masterpiece, and even Exorcist 3 has become one of my favorite movies. So I guess it was a slim chance I was going to enjoy anything new added to the franchise. I tried. I really tried. But it was awful.

Did see Talk to Me a few months back. Actually thought it was pretty good, one of the better horror movies bad recently (which I guess does not say that much).

If you like horror and haven’t seen it yet, Z was one of the scarier flicks I’ve watched recently.

I’ll have to look for that. Haven’t heard of it.

Fall colors and so mind cleansing!

Wonderful!

 We always go for making steak sandwiches or a steak salad for leftover steak.
 Sandwich: thin slices of leftover steak on a crusty sourdough roll broiled with some kind of savory cheese on top and smeared with Dijon or spicy brown mustard. Great for a cold weather meal.
 Salad: thinly sliced leftover steak on assorted salad greens, tomato wedges, beet wedges, bell pep slices, hard boiled egg wedges with dressing on the side. I like thousand island or a bold Italian style, but bleu cheese and/or a ginger/soy sometimes happens too. 
 The left overbone goes into the 'for stock' freezer bag.

Did the Cuisinart box get opened?

Recent visit to one of our “neighborhood” restaurants - Camper https://campermp.com/ Small, lively place with normally well thought out and executed dish and good cocktails. This time a few missteps - some of lamb dumplings had dried out skin and weren’t well heated up. And the flat iron steak was a really bad value - two relatively small slices for a high price. Yes, prices are going up everywhere but the price for that amount was ridiculous.


Good cocktails (including mocktail)


Lightly pickled mix of vegetables


Griddled lamb dumplings, smoked yoghurt, sumac, walnut + golden raisin vinaigrette


Eggplant moussaka, tahini aja blanco, cashews, peppers, espelette


Slices of hiramasa, hatch chili leche de tigre, cucumber, orchid melon


American wagyu cheeseburger, pickled green tomatoes, gem lettuce, secret sauce, shoestring fries


“Clams casino” bucatini, corni di toro peppers, smoky bacon, parsley bread crumb


Creekstone flat iron “Greg’s steak”, roasted + raw squashes, zucchini-ganoush, chicories


“Peach melba”, almond frangipane, vanilla gelato, blood orange caramel


Smoked guittard chocolate cremeux ‘smores, toasted graham tarts, burnt meringue

Which Portuguese restaurant?

Costa Verde, South Amboy

Miso salmon (marinated for four days), jasmine rice, garlic spinach. Salmon is nice but it ain’t no substitute for black cod - will have to buy it and freeze it when it shows up at Whole Foods.

Kadoo borani over spaghetti: butternut squash roasted with spices, garlic yogurt, and garlic spinach because the only other borani I’ve made had spinach in it. Finished with pomegranate molasses, urfa and aleppo pepper, and olive oil.

And I ate through my tiny cake so I baked another tiny cake.

Continuing the fabulous Mrs. P’s ‘sexty’ fifth birthday celebration, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Cafe Panache, in Ramsey, NJ, including filet mignon in Bordelaise sauce with caramelized onions; butter poached lobster; octopus with eggplant caponata; and crab cake. It all went great with an excellent red blend and cabernet.

A fridge and freezer sweep resulted in a spicy taco soup. The stock for the broth was made from last night’s grilled hot wings bones. I added leftover seasoned taco meat, cherry tomatoes, corn, and zucchini. Toppings included avocado, cheddar cheese, scallions and sour cream. A few tortilla chips for crunch.

My serving came with a rainbow.
