You’re out!
Super quick General Tso’s chicken using Aldi’s gluten-free tempura chicken and bottled sauce. I would have added scallions and ginger but was out. Freshly steamed short grain rice and steamed broccoli alongside. Quite satisfying given the low effort.
Tonight’s dinner:
slightly burnt zucchini fritters,
tomato pie without the crust, with gruyere, Romano and mayo
Winged assorted greens pita (hortopita) using greens in the garden : endive , chard, arugula, dill, parsley, cilantro, Bulgarian feta, and Parmesan, 3 sheets of filo.
Leftover chicken breast and angel hair
Sweet potatoes and corn on the cob.
And FRITOS! Almost the most important part of the picture!
Pan roasted pork chops with Penzey’s Galena Street seasoning. Roasted butternut squash with butter, cinnamon and sugar. Nuclear Yukon Gold potatoes. Baby green peas. Homemade applesauce.
For dessert, freshly baked apple pie.
A fall harvest dinner: produce all from the garden.
Dinner tonight was a progressive affair since I have only so much room on my tv tray
Steamed broccoli
Fettucine al pesto
Corn on the cob
Polenta with Brussels sprouts, bacon, peas and mint - polenta cooked in vegetable broth and milk with garlic and bay leaf. Bacon cooked until crisp, Brussels sprouts roasted in bacon fat and than briefly cooked with peas and bacon in vegetable broth. Finished with nutmeg and fresh mint.
Pad krapow gai again, found some fresh krapow/holy basil at a local market and used that rather than the frozen ones I usually use.
Didn’t want to cook last night, didn’t want leftovers, didn’t know if I felt like going out… so we ended up ordering takeout sushi. A buncha sashimi, pork belly with hot chili oil, and a spider roll with a dry AF gunpowder martini (twist).
Last night, BLTs and left over salad. We kept one magnalite pan in which the bacon cooked, toaster is packed so I “toasted” the bread in the oven. Very unsightly dinner but tasted fine. Take out/dine out for the next 3 nights until we head out of LA.
This makes me crave take-out pad kra pao!
Last night’s dinner was a sweet potato, onion and mushroom casserole with green beans on the side. Simple and tasty!!
Roasted up a piece of pork belly earlier today, and used what was left of it(it’s like bloody crack) for dinner.
Spicy, stir fried, shrimp/bok choy / instant ramyun noodles(and some of the broth) and some of that delicious char siu-ish belly sprinkled with scallions and toasted sesame seeds.
Forgot to trim the skin and crisp it up separately, but it was still delish.
Warmed up the last of our Sunday roast, smashed a butternut squash and tried the TJ mini baguettes.
Beef was great, even heated up, squash was stringy, like I would expect in January but not the fall. Baguette was pretty good, cook time as estimated, nice crunch on the outside, good chew on the inside.
Very spicy harissa pork chop, sautéed escarole. Messy cooktop, delicious, very easy dinner. Good trade off.
Cheesesteak on Tuscan Pane bread with Swiss and caramelized onions.
The last of the bag of tater chips alongside.
Pla goong with Aldi’s Chilean cooked pink shrimp tossed in lime juice, fish sauce, a little toasted sugar, a splash of sesame oil, 4 chopped bird peppers, half a thinly sliced shallot, 4 cloves of garlic, and fresh cilantro, mint, basil & dill.
Was planning on serving in lettuce cups with avo spears and extra basil leaves, but the cups fell apart. We resorted to fork and knife. Very satisfying meal, and the perfect level of heat.
Maple 5 spice pork sausage from Sanagan’s Meat Locker butcher shop, home-grown roasted mini spaghetti squash and delicata with maple syrup, butter and pumpkin pie spice, summer squash arugula green bean kuku sabzi, romaine with oil and vinegar.
To make a long story short. We didn’t get home until after 6:00 tonight. He manned the grill for hamburgers. I decided to offer up French fries & hand breaded onion rings. I probably won’t make that mistake again. As good as they were too time consuming. And cayennes are back!
