First pot roast of the season. I use Martha’s recipe and add parsnips to the veg mix. Total oven time for a 2lb, 3 oz roast : 4.5 hrs at mostly 300.
My husband would like to move in now.
I could see the “men” in “ramen” originally being “mein”?
I remember reading about it once, although I’m not confident in the accuracy of the source - “lo mein” or “larmen” became “ramen.”
Ah, Wikipedia linked above says that ramen “takes its name from lāmiàn,” although it’s a different noodle.
It does make sense.
Last night: Cashew chicken with snow pea halves over Calrose rice.
A few mango chunks, too.

Earlier this week: Beef enchiladas. The big soup meat cooking this weekend made for this group of six enchiladas and a load to freeze for other uses.
Spaghetti and meatballs. I wouldn’t normally post but somehow in this seriously no-frills kitchen I’m in this week I produced my best meatballs ever. Not sure but think it must be that I only had big holes to grate the Parmigiano on…
That is one delicious looking plate of spaghetti & meatballs. Especially this time of year.
Beautiful
Grocery store rotisserie chicken, roasted white scallop squash, corn on the cob, buttered boiled new potatoes with fresh dill, tomato pie sans crust, made with English Coastal white cheddar and Hellman’s, baked beans from a can, a minimized Vaghareli corn: kernels from imperfect cobs sautéed in butter with coriander, cumin, chilies and peanuts. https://www.davidlebovitz.com/vaghareli-makai-spicy-indian-corn-recipe/
Mom and I have been playing a little game where we award points for emptying containers/packages from the fridge, freezer, or pantry. Three point for me tonight. Dumplings from our trip to Koreatowna few weeks ago, stir fry from a pkg of TJs frozen veggies plus last of another pkg of cooked frozen shrimp. Doctored up the sauce from sweet to mildly spicy
Those corn kernals look like strings of pearls!
Gorgeous vegetables. And those potatoes
Thanks!!
Hah, I can identify. Mom always lets me know when she’s finished a leftover. She’s very proud.
Tonight’s dinner was Sushi!! I didn’t have any imitation crab in stock, so I substituted in Tuna. So… these are not true “California Rolls”, but basically the same concept.
That looks delightful, and those are some thiccc spag!
