Delivery from our favorite local sushi place! Out of shot, BF also had a nigiri and maki combo (the extra toro and spicy salmon maki in this shot are his too. I had some rice for my sashimi out of shot )
I was determined to try potsticker dumplings again without them sticking to the pan.
Made some fried rice with leftover basmati rice, chopped radishes, minced garlic, frozen peas and corn, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a drizzle of sesame oil. And hey! Guess what I forgot to drizzle at the end! Still ended up pretty damn good.
Some Bibigo pork dumplings were started in another fry pan. I tried a combo of oil and a smidge of water as suggested on FB to avoid the sticking part of potstickers. Yeah, that didn’t work. Into the trash bin and I started over. This time I was able to get the dumplings properly pan-sauteed on all sides.
Used some Dumpling Daughter’s Spicy Sweet Soy sauce for dipping.
There was wine. And thankful for it being Friday.
The kiddo has become a huge fan of Garfield, so I got a frozen lasagna for us to share while my DH is out of town. He ate a few bites and then asked, " Is this the store kind or homemade?" and, “Does this have meat in it?”
Someone is too good for frozen lasagna now. He loved it several months ago. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment.
No pics, because you can easily guess what frozen lasagna, cucumbers with Tajín, and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce look like.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at F1rst Restaurant, in Hawthorne, NJ, including halibut with morel mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, mashed potatoes in a pesto sauce; portobello mushroom Wellington; humongous tempura battered zucchini blossoms stuffed with creamy goat cheese; crab cake with grilled asparagus in a tarragon tartar sauce. It all went great with a couple of excellent red blends.
Wouldn’t you like to do them in a nonstick frying pan? I do mine in my all-clad nonstick, add a tiny bit of water at the end then lid on, heat off for a minute or 2.
I’ve been cooking them in stainless, but will try nonstick next time! I did add about a Tbsp of water and covered, but I was probably a bit too early with the water, so uncovered and continued pan-frying.
I never have trouble with sticking, I’d only use about 2 teaspoons of water.
Pumpkin and basil lasagna. A Giada recipe. I like how you blitz the fresh basil with the bechamel - it permeates the whole dish.
I used no-boil noodles and garden veg. While typically I’m inclined to par-boil oven-ready noodles, our garden squash puree is so watery, I didn’t bother. Even with an extra layer of noodz, it came out perfect.
Served with roasted mild-Italian sausages and greens from the garden.
Fluffy oven baked potato, buttered, topped with chopped brisket/ a little bbq sauce and cheddar cheese. A cayenne out of the garden. And sour cream. Trying to play catch-up here.
Yum.
Branzino 2 ways
Almonds, butter, bread crumbs, lemon
Lemon, capers, Riesling, basil, crushed chiles, butter, and black pepper
Tomato pilaf
Lebanese garlic tomatoes
Homegrown chard, spinach and beet greens
Homegrown lettuce
I could not decide what to do with the chicken thigh I thawed. Desperate and hungry I made old reliable roasted chicken and veg. Chicken and little wrinkled spuds that needed to be used up were seasoned with s&p, gg, paprika, oregano and browned in oo, added carrots, peppers, onion, garlic, seasoned liberally with garlic and herb blend, roasted in the oven and garnished with parsley. Salad was little gem, cherry tomatoes, avocado, green onion, blue cheese and ranch.
BF made Tom Kha Gai, which turned out just about perfect (i added a bit more fish sauce and more toasted dried chili flakes for heat). His first time making it. Also, a SALAD for me, and some terribly past-due avocados he deep fried. We tossed them.
hard to make white soup photogenic…
I’m not familiar with zaru soba. Were there noodles?
I don’t know what to call this–a tostada? A corn tortilla stacked with avocado, tomato, shredded chicken, and feta, sprinkled with adobo seasoning and alepo chili flakes.
I made the mistake of attempting a homemade Spinach Lasagna noodle/sheet. I made a small test lasagna (meat and vegetable with a bechamel sauce) for Sunshine. She loved it.
I am no longer allowed to use store bought lasagna sheets…
In the next week or so, I’m going to scale up my test lasagna using ground turkey, vegetables, a bechamel sauce and mozzarella cheese. And homemade Spinach Pasta sheets, of course.
Yes, under all the stuff. Usually it’s a pretty minimalist dish with soba noodles (usually garnished with nori and chive) and dipping sauce. I followed Just One Cookbook’s method. Except when I didn’t.
