Love the saucy name
Our gig went reasonably well. We had a good crowd throughout, but folks seemed subdued. I’ll chalk it up to the general malaise most of us are feeling these days, and that no amount of booze or happy tunes can cure.
As predicted I had no chance to try any of the Mardi Gras foods on offer, so it’s a good thing I’d snarfed up the last 3 pieces of the tortilla Española from our dinner party before we left. My PIC had a muffuletta and fries, half of which he gave to a grad student who tried to order food after 9pm when the kitchen was already closed. TBH I wouldn’t have minded that half sammich when we were done We left pretty soon after and called it an early night.
Woke up to dark skies and steady, heavy rain that only briefly let up in the afternoon, then intensified in the evening with thunder and lightning. A good day to stay home, read, write & chill.
Dinner was more leftovers — fried rice with Lao sausage & youvetsi, dolma & gigantes.
The Lenten Fish Fry Suppers thread led me to try my hand at shallow frying a second time.
Lake perch and pickerel
Scalloped potatoes with Gruyere, Havarti and Jarlsberg
Koulouria
Caesar
Nice meal!
Mesquite-grilled piri piri chicken on the Big Green Egg. Sauteed spinach and onions. Ore-ida fast food fries in the countertop convection oven.
@Phoenikia recently noted a from-scratch piri piri sauce, which got me jonesin’ for the dish. I’ve bookmarked that recipe, but since we have a couple of bottle of Nando’s sauce to use up (I’m a fan), I went with that version tonight. Very good overall, and saved me the 200+ kilometer drive to Vancouver, BC.
Yeah, 4 is usually the warmup while I’m cooking before I devour 8 more.
How some stale Italian bread turned into these creations: flounder oreganata and stuffed portobello mushrooms.
There was also sauteed spinach and a ginormous batch of slow cooker mac and cheese, which served as the side tonight and probably will be the next three nights as well.
Gin & tonic.
Thank you!
Glazed chicken thighs with miso and king oyster mushrooms. It was supposed to be served with rice, which I discovered in the microwave when I was doing dishes. Pickled veg.

Thanks for the parchment paper pizza tips Feb folks. This is ham, mush, sun dried tomato. Ez cheese and cracker thin crust. That’s how you noom a pizza. This, minus about 3” slab I already cut off the side, was half a Roberta dough recipe. Tasty though. Thin Husband got 60% pizza plus chicken nugs.
That’s a stunning bird
I just looked this up… WOW!! Looks and sounds yummy!!
Now I want stuffed mushrooms. Thanks a lot, @gcaggiano! Can’t wait for the chicken cutlet pics to really kill me
Haven’t made those in a while. Next batch shall be in your honor!
And maybe after that I will take the plunge with your excellent past instructions!
Terun and iTalico are two well established restaurants in Palo Alto (which we still haven’t tried - too many interesting restaurants, too little stomach space). The restaurant owners recently opened a new place not too far from our house - Impasto https://www.impastosancarlos.com/ . And so it was finally time to try one of the restaurants from that group and it didn’t disappoint. Very high quality of the dishes with good pasta and pizza (Neapolitan style). Something to add to our restaurant list for repeats.

Always a treat to be cooked for. My friend made miso salmon, spicy haricots vert, an orzo and leek stir-fry, and Japanese tomato salad for dinner.
I took dessert – lemon blondies / brownies with white chocolate chips and a lemon glaze.
The miso salmon was a change from mine, because she used red miso and I use white. I am not usually a fan of orzo, but it was delicious the way she prepared it. And the tomato salad was – tomatoes blanched and peeled before marinating in a honey and vinegar dressing: like popping candy!
A lovely evening that would have extended even longer if it wasn’t a weeknight. She finally had to peel the kids away from the after-dinner chat at 10:30 to send them to finish their schoolwork before bed
