New year, new recipe: spicy hot oil seared biang-biang noodles from the Xi’an Famous Foods cookbook. I’ve made plenty of pasta, but never pulled, hand-ripped noodles. They’re lots of fun to make and have a great mouth-feel. We didn’t particularly care for the sauce that originally went with these, so for the second batch I used the sauce from our favourite cashew chicken dish. Quite enjoyable. I can see these noodles appearing as a side dish whenever we don’t feel like rice.

They look fantastic, but you seem to have a hand with pasta in general!

Slept in a bit later than planned today, so running errands was more hectic than it should have been, but everything got done in time. I also got my spiffy new citrus and garlic presses today, so I’m a super-happy camper  #itsthelittlethings

I also hadn’t a clue what I wanted for dinner tonight. My PIC to the rescue: he had a hankering for Sichuan hot pot. No surprise, given the arctic temps. Broth base was roasted garlic and mushroom as per usual, plus our favorite hot pot base. Threw in a few quartered shiitake right away, as my sweets likes them cooked to death.

Baby shanghai cabbage, noodz, ginormous black tiger shrimp and a salmon filet I trimmed & cut into bite-sized pieces.

Unfortunately, I totes blanked on getting napa cabbage, which I love to add early on as well so it turns into silky, scrumptious, Sichuan-flavored sheets of heaven. Oh, well :woman_shrugging:t2: — we ate it anyway :yum:

Two dipping sauces: ginger/sesame oil/soy sauce/rice vinegar & peanut butter/chili crisp. A Mexicoke for me, a Reissdorf for my dood.

Looking forward to a cozy night at home  This week flew by quickly!

Leftovers potluck with our friend and her kid. We each contributed a lasagna  and mocktails, and there was my potato-ham chowder and a freshly baked loaf of my favorite honey-oat wheat bread.

A bowl of ramen-ish goodness. Dashi miso broth, lo mein noodles, snow peas, baby bok choy, mushrooms, pork tenderloin, sbe, green onions. Pickled carrots, cukes, daikon radish. Mizu.

Whole Foods has dollar oysters on Friday, so I got a dozen, three varieties. One was all dried out and another broke clean in half while I was shucking it (I had to eat it right away, because it was too ugly to serve). So 10 oysters. And a baked potato. And a spinach salad with shrimp, fennel, carrot, radish and a boiled egg. Which tasted really off, so I pitched it. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a bad egg before.

I tried to make some crispy salmon croquettes in the air fryer. It didn’t work. I’m giving up on the air fryer as anything like deep or pan frying. Still, they were ok, over TJ’s cacio e pepe ravioli, EVOO, and romano.

I had some buttermilk leftover from making muffins, so I tried making buttermilk biscuits using Chef John’s recipe:

They came out pretty well even though I forgot to make an indention on the tops. Also, using the 2.5 inch biscuit cutter that the recipe specifies, I ended up with 18 biscuits rather than 12. I may have rolled the dough too thin.

For dinner I had some muffins with butter, bacon, scrambled eggs, and broccolini.

Be glad that you did. My husband got a “gamey” egg at a restaurant once, and gave our kid a bite, and about 8 hrs later they were both projectile vom…you know.

Thank you! I was really happy with it this time – finally getting the hang of it :crossed_fingers:t2:

Oof. Yeah, it was one of those time when your body says “Hey, maybe don’t eat that.” Which thankfully overcame my frugality and my desire for a boiled egg.

That looks wonderful, Marria. I am wondering what kind of dressing you put on it.

Leftover meatloaf, but in sandwich form!
Meatloaf, cheese, pickled jalapeno, crispy onions, Dijon, mayo on toasted sourdough, leftover mashed spuds on the side. So yuge I needed a break in between halves
