Because of the impending storm on Sunday afternoon/evening into Monday (I’m in the 6-12" band :face_with_raised_eyebrow:), everything was crazy. After lots of errands (and LOTS of patience!), I went with sausage, roasted broccoli, and caramelized onion pizza for dinner tonight.

:sweat_drops::droplet: as the libation tonight.

Very long day cleaning out my mom’s apartment after moving her to long term nursing care. Dinner was Spinach Maria and adult beverages:

I’m feeling for you, and hoping your mom is doing ok. That’s a huge transition for everyone. Take care, eat well, and enjoy adult beverages.

BTDT, it is emotionally exhausting. I hope the move went well, and please take care of you.

Chicken soup (for the soul). All the usual suspects – mirepoix, chicken, thyme. Bonus points for using up the extra cooked lasagna noodles from last week’s pasta bake.

Served with focaccia on the side.

Roasted pork tenderloin, fig chutney. Hasselback red garnet sweet potato roasted in a butter bath. Roasted golden beet, blood orange, fennel, avocado over greens, sherry vinegar & oo with orange zest and a dribble of honey dressing, fennel fronds. Vatten.

Homemade malloreddus with meat sauce from The Sardinian Cookbook. It feels like the Sardinian version of pasta with Bolognese sauce, using lamb and pork as the meats. Very nice and will make again. Topped with pecorino Romano cheese.

I hope this is a win for all involved.

We enjoyed another sensational dinner at James on Main, in Hackettstown, NJ, including pan seared scallops with sunchoke puree, calabrian chili gremolata, sweet corn cake, sunchoke crisps; beautifully charred rib eye steak with perfectly marbled melt in your mouth fat, topped with herb butter; spicy green curry maitake mushroom; snow crab claws; maple cured duck confit with miso sweet potato velvet, lacinato kale, brown butter creme fraiche; truffled root vegetables. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets.

Homemade chirashi for the very first time! The fish could definitely have been more skillfully cut and the tamago less brown and better rolled, but overall, not bad! With broccoli leaf oshitashi and oysters with ponzu.

Absolutely perfect sear on those lovely scallops! Everything looks wonderful.

And this sounds wonderful! I have some organic white miso Ive been wondering how to use, and got some sweets from my CSA’s final pop-up market in my building this past week. Will have to see if there’s something out there to give me an idea on making something similar.

That must’ve been exhausting. My sister had to take care of all the arrangements for my mom two years ago, and I know just how stressful it was.

I hope your mom feels at home soon, and you get to relax!

Thanks! She is getting there; it sounds like she is beginning to participate in activities with other residents. She is eating. So, I am hopeful. I will have another meeting with her care team on the 28th and they will let me know then if she is cleared for visitors!
