Leftover pepperoni and soppressata pizza and baked Buffalo wings. Not very healthy, but sometimes a salad just won’t cut it

Ditto. It’s just me. So that makes it even easier. That’s not to say that on a Thursday at work, I’ll think “Hmmm, I want a burger on Friday, and I’m craving pasta, so I’ll do something with that on Saturday. Oh yeah. Don’t forget to take out the roasting chicken for Sunday to defrost when you get home from work tonight.”
Tonight? Nothing taken out of the freezer. I looked at maybe a pistachio pesto pasta, maybe a TJs ravioli. Meh. So it’ll be a bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch cereal or some scrambled eggs with cream cheese.
No slight to those who have that talent! I’m not incapable of following plans but there are simple factors that easily chg my mood or choice.
That lemon pasta has my attention lately and I swear the box was talking to me tonight
But, at the end of the long, busy day I think we can all agree HOs not only create amazing meals but make doing so incredibly approachable.
I may have vague ideas, e.g. ‘oh, we haven’t had X in a while,’ but it usually depends on what we have at home, what either of us feels like on any given day, what appeals at the store — more often than not, I get inspired while shopping, not beforehand
What can I say — I’m not a planner
Pssssst… you can have pizza and salad
LOL!!! Nice try buddy
Shrimp and bean burritos, repurposing the leftover rice and borracho beans. I was going to do some sort of more involved shrimp taco with corn tortillas, but I ran out of energy before I got home from work.
Glad I went to the FM when I did, bc it’s been raining, thundering & lightning ever since.
Leaving the house again didn’t appeal, so I canceled our ladies night – a few gals had prior obligations & were going to be late anyway, and I’m low energy after waking up too early. Again
Lazy bones here decided to get takeout. We were in the mood for sushi, which we’ve not had since Berlin. The quality is obviously not the same, but it’s also far more affordable. We were disappointed to no longer find one of our favorite apps on the menu, the Sichuan braised pork belly
Too lazy to plate dinner. We’re barbarians
I also steamed a few har gow in the MW on a plate sprayed with avocado oil and covered with a bowl, mostly bc I didn’t want to deal with the bamboo steamer setup. I probably should’ve also added a splash of water to the plate — I think the skins turn out softer that way.
Looking forward to a cozy night on the couch
Riffed on a recipe from the NY Times that has been showing up on my socials - https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1019681-cheesy-white-bean-tomato-bake
I added a sautéed onion and chopped up BBQ rib meat from the freezer to send it in a different direction seasoning-wise. Delicious. Didn’t need bread, IMO - the beans are starchy enough on their own. Will be terrific as leftovers.
Tonight’s dinner was an almost vegetarian rice pilaf - not quite vegetarian since I cooked the pilaf in chicken stock. I sauteed some broccoli florets and carrots in a little ghee, added garlic and ginger then turmeric and garam masala. I added the rice last then chicken stock then let it simmer for 15 minutes.
My DH cooked, too – sandwiches, no less! Breaded pork chop Sammies on Kaiser rolls with cole slaw. Somehow I ate despite feeling decrepit.
BF made my requested bday dinner - dumplings! or jiaozi, if you will… handmade with won ton wrappers, chicken thighs he ground himself, ginger and scallions, boiled, and served with different sauces (don’t ask me what, all variations of soy/sesame oil/chili crisp/two different chili oils/ginger/sugar/etc., but all tasted different and delicious. Also, he made a simple soy-based broth with some of the dumplings. All super tasty, silky, tender - i really think boiled dumplings are my favorite. (Also, they are something the BF can eat with his dental issues.) a couple of little salads on the side, too.
Cocktails out later tonight.
Shrimp and egg salad with balcony tarragon, balcony tomatoes and basil, homegrown/homemade pickles, and are those Durkee potato sticks? No! Just old-ass leftover fries and they were so good.
ooh, i’ve made that, but years ago! your additions sound great.
Peruvian chicken salad with aji verde. Blsl chicken thigh marinated in oo, s&p, garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano and a squeeze of lime juice, seared and roasted. Little gem and oakleaf lettuce, red onion, cherry tomatoes (Sun Sugars from the garden), avocado and fried garlic papas. Margaritas.
How did I miss this post? Phenomenal!
For Taco Tuesday I made a batch of carnitas in the slow cooker. Pork shoulder plus rendered lard from a local Mexicatessen on high for about four hours. I made some tacos topped with tomatillo salsa.
Our visit to Locanda Perbellini https://locandaperbellini.it/ was unfortunately a first disappointment here in Milan. The food was overall good but the service was just plain horrible. We haven’t experienced such a rushed service anywhere, including the US, in a very long time. It was obvious that there was little interest to create a relaxed ambience, e.g. it doesn’t help if somebody always looks around the corner every 30 seconds to see if you are done with your dish, no breaks within courses etc. Overall not a restaurant we would recommend - there are too many good options in Milan.
My lists/menus aren’t set in stone, sometimes meals get bumped a day or two. Ya gotta be a bit flexible, hence the 98.6% success rate
