What's for Dinner #109 - the National Sandwich Month Edition - August 2024

Considering dinner didn’t go as planned, it still looks awfully good!

My favourite sandwich in California was a tri tip and asparagus sandwich special at the Farm Cafe at Michael David winery in Lodi.

Poker game last night. I may have broken even :woman_shrugging:t3:

Sichuan delivery: chongqing chicken, bok choy and braised shiitake, Singapore noodz, fish dry pot, cumin beef. All good.

No pics — too busy chatting, playing & eating.

Gig tonight at a local brewery, where one of my favorite food trucks will be set up  Might have to go on the earlier side: we play 8-10pm, the truck closes shop at 8pm. Her Cubanos and mac are :fire:

This sounds good. Do you recall what else was on the sandwich (and type of bread) which made it special?

It was on a half a baguette/ French stick. It’s been quite a while, at least 10 years!

I think it had some sort of aioli or lemon mayo.

That was also the first time I tried tri tip.

No lettuce or tomato on the sandwich. I’m sure I took a photo, but that would have disappeared when CH went down. LOL

Linner before a show: cheeseburger ww orzo with burger toppings. Actually pretty good; next time I’ll hold back on the salt a hair. ETA: I remain not a hot lettuce person (like @Saregama ).

I headed up to ribfest this afternoon and was surprised to see our late summer festival, which is small to start off with, is even snaller this year. There were only four ribbers there, a “blooming onion” place (not sure what that is), a sandwich truck (?!?) and a taco truck (don’t get your hopes up - the tacos didn’t look that good). Pictures for your enjoyment:

The stall in the second picture is where I ordered dinner from. I ordered a half rack of ribs and mac 'n cheese to go. The servings of both were huge so I only ate half and the other half of dinner is in the freezer for next week. The COTC is from my CSA.

I was going to go up to buskerfest later but it is raining and there is thunder.

Super simple tonight: Wegmans sockeye salmon, slow roasted with a spicy sweet chili sauce brushed on for the last 7-8 minutes, served on top of sautéed spinach with minced garlic and s/p, and topped with toasted Mediterranean pine nuts.

Wine.

A blooming onion is a battered onion that when it’s deep fried it comes out looking like a blooming flower. Kinda like a very large onion ring

We enjoyed another outstanding dinner at The Farmer’s Daughter in Newton, NJ, including grilled branzino with roasted tomato, arugula, and charred lemon; BLT tartar with filet mignon, heirloom tomato, capers, parmesan cream, and quail yolk; seared wild caught scallops with sweet corn tomato relish; ahi tuna, crab, avocado stack; fried calamari with an excellent tropical BBQ glaze that I could have taken a bath in :yum: brussel caesar salad with fried shaved sprouts and a creamy garlic dressing. It all went great with our favorite red blend and an excellent cabernet.

I was gifted fresh from the Pacific ling. I haven’t had tacos this week so fish tacos it is. Seasoned with s&p, garlic, chile powder, dried Mexican oregano, fried and cut into chunks. Cabbage slaw (red cabbage, cilantro, rpf, oo and a squeeze of lime), chipotle tarter sauce (mayo, pickle relish, red onion, chipotle chile in adobe). If it’s Mexican there is margaritas.

I also prepared a pizza tonight. I knew @John pizza would make me want one. So, I made a Chorizo & Onion Pizza. Sunshine is NOT a fan of Chorizo, so I made her a quick spaghetti and meatball dinner (not pictured). I liked my pizza, but am envious of John’s!!
