What fusion!
Thank you. I will try it again tonight (since I don’t have any backup plan for Sunday). Last September, I had a long bout of Covid and lost my sense of taste. It has recovered somewhat but I have residual impairments and I think the sauce was too subtle to register with the tastebuds that are still firing. DH said he really liked it - and I asked him to taste test it as we went along. I couldn’t detect saffron in a paella we had several weeks ago at a local restaurant, but DH confirmed it was there. I also find sharp citrus and vinegar flavors overwhelming. That, coupled with my longstanding aversion to smoked foods as a side effect of chemo, choosing and enjoying what I eat is like navigating a minefield. It’s becoming a source of depression.
Arties in any form. We find small frozen at our Safeway. Great for fried artichoke balls. Also baked artichoke dip. That freezes well, too. The mega jars from Costco last quite awhile in the pantry, but in the meantime are added to salads and sides. The liquid in the jars made a great salad dressing and marinade base. When we buy mega sizes of items at Costco, we also share one of a two pack or half of something with family or friends. Avocados, for one example. A bag of 5 or 6 gets split up before they get over ripe.
Awwwww
Ok, if you say so.
I honestly have no idea.
Just know that everything was delicious.
Always!!
Great din - I just tried to eat the photo. I’ll just have to make my own, I guess.
Listening to the sample right now. Will get my iPad and download. Thank you.
The weather forecast said it would be better Saturday than Sunday so we celebrated Mother’s Day on Saturday with a NY Chinatown Dumpling Crawl. The Sprout planned our route based on way too many Tik Toks but we adjusted based on crowds and finding other interesting places along the way.
-
Tasty Dumpling, Mulberry St. - Boiled Vegetable Dumpligs
-
Shang Dong, Mosco St (which we figured out only by their NYC Health Dept rating sign - the sign was in Chinese) - Fried Pork Dumplings
-
Shanghai 21, Mott St. - Soup Dumpling with Pork
-
Joe’s Ginger, Pell St. - Soup Dumplings with Pork and Crab Meat and Fried Pork Buns
Pop Up on Pell Street - Beef and Chicken Skewers (Sorry I forgot to take a picture)
Deluxe Green Bo, Bayard St. - Pork and Leek Dumplings
Mott Street Eatery/Sanmiwago, Mott St. - Taiwanese Pork and Corn Panfried Dumplings
Shu Jiao Fu Zhou, Grand St. - Chicken and Mushroom Dumplings, Rice Noodles with Peanut Sauce
Mr Fong’s Bar, Market St. - Rum+Ginger, Fong’s Colada, Salty Plum Old Fashioned
Wok Wok, Mott St. - We decided since we were there we’d try some Southeast Asian cuisine - primarily Thai and Malaysian - not readily available in our area.
Penang White Curry Laksa
Thai Chicken Omelette
Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang
Holy. Hell.
Your crawl looks insanely amazing!
We had a great time and tThe Sprout really out did herself planning it.
Looks delicious and looks like a lot of fun!!
We had a really good time and are now working on doing more crawls either in NYC or other places.
What a fabulous thing to do for Mother’s Day! Everything looks so good!
Mom came for a late lunch/early dinner. She wanted Chinese-American, so we got some delivered. Pan fried dumplings, Kung Pao chicken, beef and broccoli, dry fried green beans, and house special fried rice. It made mom very happy and we have lots of leftovers for lunch for the next couple days.
This is the ideal way to spend a day. And I love Mr. Fong’s!
A half rack of St. Louis ribs, rubbed with my go-to pork rub from Kristine’s Kitchen, baked in foil for 2 hours at 350°, then slathered with a new-to-me BBQ sauce from Steve’s Original Sauces in NH. VERY good Maple BBQ sauce. A slight sweetness, a really nice tang and a slight bit of heat.
A Rice, Pea, and Feta Salad using leftover Basmati rice and peas, and Deviled Eggs with Duke’s mayo, freshly ground pepper, minced red onion, tarragon and a sprinkle of paprika.
There was wine.
A happy Mother’s Day to moms, stepmoms, foster moms, kitty and puppy moms, and those missing their moms.
We went out for brunch, returned home for naps and LEGO time, then back out to a brewery to hear one of my favorite local bands. Had some brisket nachos to soak up my wine then headed home for pork egg rolls and boneless beef short rib Thai Penang curry with butternut squash, jasmine rice, and garden spinach. It was very good!
I did not feel like cooking tonight but had a pork chop on its last day of viability. So I trimmed the fat, rendered a bit of it, and cooked the chop in its own fat. Meanwhile I thinned some TJ’s zhoug with olive oil and added capers. Plated the chop, added the zhoug-caper sauce and dinner was served. Counted the zhoug as my vegetable. Easy and very tasty!!
Wow. What an amazing trek.
