What's for Dinner #101 - the Holidaypalooza Edition! - December 2023

A Very Special Treat!

Tonight, I finally got to try out this special Japanese Souvenir Gift, which my good foodie friend - ‘ Ex-chowhound SkylineR33 ‘ hand carried all the way from Tokyo!

A class or two above the ever popular ‘Ichiran‘ or ‘Ippudo’ brands. This handcrafted instant Ramen noodle ( Spicy Tantanmen ) is the product of Tokyo’s Michelin 1* Ramen Hose - ‘Nakiryu‘!
The cooking instruction is also the most stringent I have ever come across for a pack of instant noodles!..270ml of boiling water for the broth. Boiling time of 30 seconds for the noodles at high heat then exactly 1 minutes 20 seconds at medium heat!

The end result was a bowl of delicious and satisfying, ultra-fine and al dente noodles. The well seasoned, umami rich broth came from a rich spicy soy/chili oil condensed soup base enhanced with an additional, aromatic and appealing sesame paste based component. Total package has just the right amount of spicy heat. Most Enjoyable!

Like on the cornbread!

Tonight’s dinner was sliced tomato and cucumber to start then fettuccine with Brussels sprouts and gorgonzola.

Leftoverpalooza continues with red pepper pesto as a dip for shrimp, and balcony mustard greens with blue cheese vinaigrette.

For a second I read balcony as an adjective. Must drink more coffee.

It is, in this case! Modifies “mustard greens.”

I tell you, I really like finding new uses for leftovers. It’s nice to have a creative outlet for my natural frugality and moral aversion to wasting food.

Banger and mash. The banger is house-made lamb and rosemary sausage from a local butcher counter, air-fried. ETA: quick gravy from Penzy’s beef base.

I read it as baloney mustard greens, and I’ve had plenty of coffee!

That looks very new years-y!

The NYE menu is even more NYE-y!

I do this every time @small_h mentions “balcony greens”, thinking it’s like Little Gem lettuces…a brand name in the stores I haven’t seen yet.

Here they be!

Is that a wine bottle waterer? If so, brilliant idea.

Yes, it’s called a Plant Nanny, and I’ve got a whole mess of 'em!

Well, we all know I’ve got the empty wine bottles to use in them!

I’ve just added this to my Amazon shopping list. Going to get some for my sister as well, as she grows tomatoes at her house, but has to have someone water them if they go up to their cabin in Maine for a week in the summer.

Thanks for posting about them!
