Late summer is clafoutis time.
Sour cherry cake, the darker variety of sour cherries. Unfortunately, the last of the fleeting season for sour cherries. Expect this to be cooled by late lunchtime when we will have a slice.
Gingered plum and rhubarb compote with Straus maple ice cream.
That sounds great!
That is the only reason that I buy bananas
Peach sago, based on the mango pomelo sago from Chinese Enough. I used peaches because I am overrun with nice ripe ones. Just peaches, some condensed milk and water blended to make a thin smoothie, then plain cooked pearl tapioca is added. It’s fruity, sweet and creamy. Perfect dessert on a hot day if you like tapioca.
A bountiful Balaton cherry galette, filled with the very last of the tart cherries of this season. A thin layer of frangipane was spread on the crust prior to the cherries.
Tapioca. The first time I remember having it was when mumps or something was making a run through the neighborhood. It was so creamy and delicious and we asked for it anytime se were sick.
Finally got to slicing the cherry galette this evening, it’s hard not to sneak another piece! The thin frangipane layer provided a nice layer of protection to keep the tart bottom nicely browned and baked all the way through.
Looks great! I thought it would be messy slicing it because it looked like there was lots of liquid, but I guess that was because of the brilliant shine.
My kind of torte; looks great! Would a glass of Amaretto go well with it?
It was on the money for slicing, not too thick and not runny either ! And the crust was perfectly baked. Sorry to see the end of the cherries.
Sure. A glass of brandy or cognac might be even better, though.
I once had a bit of brandy with a marzipan-filled chocolate, then switched to Amaretto with the chocolate, and much-preferred the chocolate with the Amaretto.
Probably the marzipan.
That makes sense in context. This cake is much more intensely chocolatey than almondy.
Apparently, someone shared this bowl of Tillamook chocolate hazelnut ice cream, chopped walnuts and broken-up Dubai chocolate for a late night dessert yesterday.
I have zero recollection of this happening, but the photographic evidence is undeniable. I blame the martini/martinez nightcaps
