What Wine Did You Drink Today #1? 2015-2020

The only wines I’ve heard referred to as consistently “unstable” are the few I’ve had that were made without added sulfites. It wouldn’t be far off for a winery that is biodynamic to be doing that, but I didn’t notice it in a quick look at their site. Any input on that HTN?

there are no added sulfites. it is also unfined and unfiltered and sometimes an unintended secondary fermentation can occur in such wines to make them taste off and be a bit spritzy. not just with sass, but many “natural” wines.

we joke to not store them near babies.

Yum.

Don’t know if I’ve posted this where you may have seen it before but you should look into Coturri Winery, in Glen Ellen (near Sonoma).

yes, have had their wines. i actually sell wine for a wholesaler with a great portfolio so pretty much never buy it.

I am now officially jealous of you. What a great gig!

there are definitely worse jobs to have.

Lucky you! It’s interesting that neither winery makes a point of their not adding sulfites. In the case of Coturri he’s told me it’s because wines made that way get a bad rap most of the time. I still suggest him when I come across someone who seems to be sure their wine headaches are sulfite related.

people don’t understand that sulfites naturally occur in wine anyway. if winemakers start talking about it, even to say they don’t add them, it gets planted in consumer’s brains.

most of the time a negative reaction is a histamine issue and has nothing to do sulfites.

Over the years I ‘took’ Wine Headaches 101 from marialorraine on CH, so I’m pretty much up to speed on that stuff. ;o))

This was a bottle dad had sitting around that he gave me because he can’t imbibe anymore. I was worried because it was not cellared but it was good! Accompanied a snacky dinner of fritatta and bruschetta and cold antipasto

A decent zin.

eric kent las madres syrah. i want to marry this wine and live happily ever after with it.

I continue to envy you for the fact one of us made a much wiser career choice than the other. And the other of us passed on a chance to work at Diageo years back, so I just kick myself harder. Who else enjoys such cool fringe benefits? Anyway cheers–sounds wonderful!

i would rather gouge out my own eyes with a wine key than work for a company like diageo or constellation.

yesterday was my first time trying the eric kent wines. they are astounding – complex, elegant, thoughtful. just amazing. and the owner/winemaker, kent humphries, is a great guy.

HA HA HA, there is plenty I would enjoy drinking out of the Diageo portfolio (used to have a connection who worked there and didn’t drink, so we benefited from her liquor allotment). Just saying, you have a sweet gig. Wish I did, too. And the wine you posted sounds phenomenal. And yeah, in a different league than much of what the big D offers. Totally get it.

diageo just sold off almost its entire wine portfolio anyway.

i know people who worked for them and it was hell on earth. soul-killing.

Appreciate that insight. I always thought I had missed a huge opportunity to work for something other than the evil empire(s) I’ve worked for most of my life, so that makes me feel better, seriously.

happy to be of service.

My daughter spent 12 years at Constellation, in marketing. There were negatives to being under a male-dominated, somewhat rigid corporate structure, but her day-to-day work with a couple of the wineries was very rewarding. She left to spend the next 3 years with a privately owned winery, but now owns a craft beer bar, so… there IS THAT.
