Like keeping up with Alexander McCall Smith’s ‘Ladies Detective Agency’ series----too many to count. I don’t think SG finished that series.
Come to find out, Sue Grafton died in 2017. She finished the series with Y Is for Yesterday. Now I wished I’d kept my big trap shut.
I loved Luby’s when I visited my cousin in Beaumont, TX. Are they still there? Lots of fresh vegetables, no instant mashed potatoes.
In one of Kinky Friedman’s earlier volumes, the Kinkstah and Rambam discuss Grafton’s alphabet series, with one musing about what happens after “Z”. We can’t remember what they conjured for “AA”, but recall “BB is for King” and “CC is for Rider”.
Forgot about on peanut butter toast. It is a surprisingly good combo
I’ve never had Wickles. Will definitely search for them next month when I’m in the south. Love spicy pickles…
You might check your local Safeway, too. Looking online, it seems they stock Wickles products.
Thx, checked the store locator and you are right about this. I’ll be swinging by Harris Teeter this week
For Sour Dill Pickles:
Stuffed Cabbage
Rouladen
Pickle Soup / Zupa Ogórkowa
Luby’s is still in business, I don’t know about the Beaumont location in particular. If you haven’t been since the early 2000s, you might notice some changes. They were bought by the Pappas Restaurants chain, which is generally quite good, but Pappas tried to squeeze more profit out of the cafeterias, and for a while struggled with a downturn in business as a result. Not big changes but lots of little ones, like the women who pushed the beverage carts on proper hourly wage were replaced with people working for tips so now there’s tipping in a cafeteria, and a mint leaf is added to every plate of pie along with an increased cost. Stuff like that. Some of them closed; some split their buildings to be half-Fuddruckers; some started serving all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. It was grim for a while.
But you can still get a LuAnn plate with a half-rectangle of fried fish, some mac and cheese, fried okra, and a roll, plus a ginormous strawberry shortcake.
Batteries?
I only went a couple of times, last time was when Clinton was in office. Sad that the quality changed; a sprig of mint does nothing for me.
I can’t remember the tv show that mentioned maybe an airline meal expense for parsley that no one eats, just for decoration.
Like the extra garnish on a hospital mral bill. Mother taught us to eat the parsley as a ‘palate cleasnser’.
Pretty sure that’s not quite matching the Kinkstah’s irreverent style. We’d have thought “AA is for Jameson” because a bottle was always within reach on his desk with the two blowers, but really don’t remember “AA is for [Whatever]”. Come to think of it, he and Rambam got to “DD is for” involving undergarment.
