What’s so Great about Dubai Chocolate?

I was in Costco in SSF, my daughter wanted me to pick up Dubai chocolate. Since I didn’t see it I asked the cashier.

He said they’d gotten two shipments and sold out within 30 minutes each time.

I told him I guessed you’d have to work there to be able to snag any.

Here’s a fairly long existing thread on the topic:

Having tried it from a variety of sources, I will say it depends on where you get it.

Both the Turkish pastry chef in our hometown & the Turkish baklava place here in Berlin make versions worthy of the price tag:

I’ve been hearing a lot about this Dubai chocolate, too. It seems like the hype really took off recently. From what I’ve read and seen online, it’s not a specific brand but more of a style or trend, usually involving milk chocolate, pistachios, and sometimes elements like kadaifi or baklava. Sounds like a fusion of Middle Eastern and European dessert traditions.

The quick sellout at Costco doesn’t surprise me, especially if it’s a limited shipment and riding the trend wave. Probably helps that it’s visually appealing too, those gold wrappers and pistachio layers tend to look pretty fancy. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but I’m curious if it’s more about the flavor or just the novelty.

You could check out the discussion I linked in my first link. Not all Dubai chocolate has gold leaf, but all Dubai chocolate is supposed to have milk chocolate, pistachio cream or paste, and kadaif — ideally toasted :yum:

Try it if you get a chance. It can be quite wonderful, and when it is it is absolutely worth the hype.
